We saw these paper things hanging in the corners of the rooms in our cottage and the main house, and had no idea what they were. Later, while we were at the Salt Mines in the gift shop, I was looking through a book and low and behold, there was one of these paper things... on the head of a cow! It turns out that these are headdresses that are made by the milk maid... they are hand-woven and take weeks or months to make. When the cows come home from pasture in the summer, if none of the cows have been lost, it's a big deal, and there's a huge celebration as they lead the cows home.
