Today was a mellow day. We woke up around 8:00 am and started cleaning and packing. We had to tie luggage to the top of the the van and it was like tetris putting the luggage and gear in the van. MEHS Whale Research Class

MEHS Whales

We are four students from Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka, Alaska. We are traveling to Hawaii from February 17-March 2, 2008 to participate in an exchange with humpback whale researchers. We have been learning about whales and research from local marine biologist Jan Straley. Jan has been studying humpback whales in southeast Alaska for close to 30 years. In Alaska we see the feeding behaviors of humpbacks, in Hawaii we are hoping to see the different behaviors that occur during the mating and calving season.
