The original castle didn't have the bridge out the back. When Dianne de Poitiers took it over, because she loved to hunt she had the bridge built. When the evil Catherine de Medici took over she added the top bits over the bridge to make a grand ballroom and partyroom so as to further the political interests of some of her 10 evil children.
