Next January, the Kalachakra gathering in South India, will attract many, many Tibetans from within Tibet as well as already in exile. Knowing this, the Chinese government has been extremely reluctant to grant visas to India. Many Tibetans will have snuck out of Tibet to attend the Dalai Lama's teachings. Others might have obtained travel visas for Nepal. From there, if they did not receive further travel visas to India, they try to get such documents upon arriving in McLeod Ganj.

After having spent two months in Tibet (that is including the Chinese provinces of Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai), over a month in Nepali Tibetan areas, and another 2 months in Tibet-in-exile, I have had a chance to see different forms of Tibetan life.
