Rotorua is a nice enough place. A bit like Taupo in that it is by a lake, it's very volcanic and you can do every imaginable extreme sport here. Two things wrong with the place. One, it stinks. The entire town smells of rotten eggs due to all the sulphur. And two, there are far too many Americans. Especially where we were staying.
