real big fish..
..what is with the big things! How you goin?!
On the way to queenstown we stopped over night in Fairlea so Rob had a rest. The next day we carried on towards Queenstown. The journey was incredible, we saw some of the most amazing scenery. We stopped at Lake Tekapo which was really incredible and an awesome turquoise blue colour. Apparently it gets this colour because the rocks grind into rock flour which then filters into the water. The sun going through the rock flour in the water gives it its colour. Of course we got some nice pictures. Next, we got to lake Pukaki which had awesome views of Mount Cook in the distance. It had snow on it too so the pictures we got were beautiful. From here we continued down to Queenstown.
Queesntown had the most mind blowing scenery, we parked up at a topten campsite with views of a mountain right in front of us. It was what we imagined Switzerland to be like. Queenstown has alot of visitors, with even more in the winter months for people who come to ski on The remarkables. The town was quite small with restaurants, bars and shops and an amazing harbour with views
Lake tekapo...
..it was beautiful with mount cook in the background. over the lake and the surrounding mountains. We had just arrived but Rob was keen to get a sky dive booked up, so he did and he was going to jump the next morning.
So the next morning came and i was as nervous as Rob about his jump. He was going to be going up to 15000ft in a little plane and then VOLUNTARILY throwing himself out of it. We got to the drop point and waited for an hour just watching these little dots jump from the planes. It was a beautiful day and every few minutes there were about 5 people jumping, it was strangely popular! Robs time came and nerves were setting in. He got suited and booted and had a run down on proedure. Then he was waving goodbye and getting in this tiny plane. I tried to watch for as long as i could see, before i started to notice these little dots falling from the plane.
He was down in about 5 minutes, with a huge smile on his face and i was relieved to see him alive! Robs experience - What an experience!! On the way up in this tiny
little plane, i admit i felt a bit jittery, then when the light turned green that was in, we got ready then just went for it, for the first 2 seconds, it was pretty scary, but after that, it was such an adrenaline rush, i was buzzing when i got to the bottom i wanted to go again, but it was quite alot , as i had the photos and dvd as well, but one of the best things i have ever done - loved it!!! The best part of it was the freefall. Freefalling for 60 secs at 200kph and the scenery was unbelievable, such an awesome place to do it!
That afternoon as Rob had had such a buzz, i realy wanted to try hanggliding as we could always see loads going off from the mountain. I booked up and could go there and then. We got picked up and i had no time to think about nerves and throwing myself off a mountain . My instructor was called Keith and he was English. He was really friendly. We got to where we needed to be and i was ready with all the gear on. However i
i thought my effort was good...
..but rob thought it was hilarious! twas really windy so we waited for about 10 minutes to see if it died down but it wasnt and Keith said it was too strong and we would end up going backwards! So i could try again in the morning.
So i had all night to think about it but it was ok. I was getting picked up at 10.30am and we woke up at…..10.30am! Our alarm hadnt gone off so we rushed to get dressed and ran to reception where the guy was waiting . We hadnt had breakfast or brushed my hair even! We headed up to coronet peak which is one of the highest jump offs in Queenstown. I was all suited again and this time the weather was impecable! We had to run as hard as we could to launch off and then we were off! It was incredible and strangely not at all scary. You feel like a bird in a way, but the best way to descrbe it, is if you have ever watched a film, where the camera is panning over a landscape, i felt like the camera! It was really surreal but had the most amazing views, something i am
Romantic picture..
..in front of lake tekapo. keen to do again. It was smiling from ear to ear, when we landed.
Later that afternoon, we just had a walk down by the harbour and got an icecream. In the evening, whilst eating our dinner, that was another lad in there on his laptop, eating just noodles, so we offered him some dinner, as we had made too much. We got chatting and found out and found out he is called Simon and is from Quebec in Canada. At first we thought he was about 30, but he turned out just to be 19, travelling around the world for a year by himself. he was raising money for cancer research. He was hitch hiking round New Zealand, so we told him our itineary and offered him a lift, which he muchly obliged! It was the next morning we were headed for Millford Sound - An adventure for 3!
Party on dudes
