View on the way to Queenstown
After Milford Sound we headed to Queenstown, spending a few days in New Zealand's extreme sports capital. Everywhere you turn in Queenstown there are advertisements attempting to entice you to participate in a huge variety of stomach churning activities including bungee jumping, white water rafting and skydiving! We, however, opted to do nothing! Sorry to disappoint! We did watch a few people bungy jumping though, including a 60 year old man who did not want to be outdone by his daughter! It did shame us into considering doing it...for all of 10 seconds!!
Queenstown was a refreshing contrast to the small, quiet areas we have been to of late, it was of course full of tourists and we did all the usual touristy things! A ride on the gondola (great views over Queenstown), a ride on the luge (once is just never enough!) a spot of shopping (the usual tourist tack!), a nose piercing incident and a drive up the Remarkables, the ski resort of the area in winter. I'm quite sure that the hire car insurance did not cover us for driving on a dirt track, hanging off the side of the mountain! It was worth it for
A ride on the Gondola
Great views over Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu the views but was a rather hair raising experience!!
Basically we chilled and had a fab couple of days!
