On my birthday we arrived in Nelson after an arduous three hour ferry journey and subsequent bus rides full of (at least ten) very hungover backpackers .

Along the way we had stopped at a very unwelcome, due to our fragile states, wine-tasting as well as stopping for a few picturesque walks which we were unfortunately not in a position to fully appreciate!

We stayed two nights in Nelson and on the first we went out for a meal to celebrate my birthday in a more subdued way than the night before!

The day after we had a relaxing day swimming in the hostel pool and lying out on the grass. We were all staying in a 20 bed shared dorm which was the largest room we've stayed in so far (on this trip). The room was also infested with ants and our friend Kobe ripped her toe open on a lose nail. We heard this hostel has shut down since. Perhaps not surprisingly!
