Invercargill to Dunedin

So off we went again, further down south and further down the thermometer! The first stop was Invarcargill, not much to say about the place really although we did go to a museum and a chocolate café. We also stopped off at Bluff to try their big green mussels.

We had planned a 5 day trip through the Catlins with lots of hiking, however, the weather turned this into a 1 day trip and we ran most of the walks we went on! We found shelter in a walk through an old abandoned rail tunnel, which was worth the trip alone to get an insight into Tory’s over active imagination!

We therefore made it to Dunedin ahead of schedule so we spent a good 4 days there which was just as well as there was plenty to keep us out of mischief. Highlights of our Dunedin trip were: pizza, Will has never been in the position of having to take topping off as there was too much meat!; a trip to the royal albatross sanctuary to see the fluffy chicks; Cadbury factory tour complete with goody bag; Speights brewery tour which was very cool, especially

Beef - just not the same!
the big wooden traditional brewing vats; Lanarch Castle, a beautiful place complete with afternoon tea by their open fire; and to finish off 3 back to back nights at the cinema, how much super hero fun can 2 people handle!

We drove to Queenstown via Oamaru where we, met a very nice old chap who was cycling around New Zealand, saw the Moeraki boulders, had some very nice Whitestone cheese, had our very own wine tasting and spent a morning in a hot tub.

Tory’s quote of the day: “One of these days Will, nature is going to throw a stone back at you.”
