Sunday 31st December 2006 For an 'alternative' New Year (instead of the usual pissed-up version) we decided to give 'Party Pills' another go (after getting advice on what we did and didn't want, based on last time). We took them and watched a Manga DVD called Appleseed, which borrowed plot from Greek mythology and was very deep... These party pills definitely had a more pronounced effect... The film took an extra hour to watch because of our constant pausing to discuss it... Then Lisa started feeling really ill - nauseous. I wasn't as bad, but did get a very hot/cold flushes and was immensely interested in the detail of everything - including a cat over the road (which I initially suspected to be a carrier bag) which I spotted out of the window and had to go and investigate mid-film...
After the DVD we raced to get ready to walk to the city centre (Cathedral Square) for midnight with Marlene, Kira, Lian and her parents. We made it with a few minutes to spare. There was a big crowd (for NZ) and live music on stage. The fireworks kicked off and there was a bagpiper on the roof of the
cathedral (see video
here). There was no big countdown that we could here... It was a strange New Year - Lisa and I were still feeling a bit rough and totally sober (probably the first time in 15 New Years). We recorded a message for everyone back home (see mine
here) and walked round the square. By 12.40am the band had cleared and everyone in the crowd had left to either go home or into a few bars. We decided to walk home in a slightly anticlimactic mood.
Once I was in bed, that was when my crazy new year started... I was laid with my eyes closed seeing AMAZING 'art work' flash before me - all styles and subjects. If I could have recorded it I would have filled a gallery in seconds! It was truly mind-blowing and unstoppable! Neither of us slept all night, with raging thurst, constant pissing (from water consumption) and headaches. Lisa's 'art' was not so good - scary rat-faced creatures... No more party pills we decided... Unless I become an artist and need 'inspiration'...
Emma called to wish me “Happy New Year” at 1am our time - I wasn't in the best
frame of minds - sorry and thank you Em!
Monday 1st January 2007 The next day I got out of bed 1pm to answer a call from my parents - who where celebrating New Year in the UK and sounded well and truly pissed. I was in a bad way - very tired and with a headache and was not the most talkative as I was passed around every relative to talk to. Sorry :-( I went back to bed and finally arose about 8pm.
We were due to leave Christchurch for our journey north the next day, so I started packing... Slowly. Finally off to bed, exhausted at 1am.
