Girlie night in Christchurch
Me and Becky hit the town with the girlies from work Finally, a few more piccies from various outings around the South Island ! To be honest we really didnt do all that much other than work and save pennies whilst we were in Christchurch, although had a really nice few weeks with Becky when she arrived on her travels here, was soooo good to see her ! I dragged her out on a girlie night with some work friends which was a good laugh ! Poor Nath was surrounded by squarking girls for the evening and then woken by about 4 of us trying to squeeze into our little flat to sleep later on that night ! Was not so funny the next morning, I felt like death. My hangovers get worse and worse every time !
Becky, Nathan and I also went for a weekend trip on the train through the mountains from Christchurch over to Greymouth on the west coast. Was a stunning journey, especially with the mountains all covered in snow. Looked so magical ! We'd planned to spend the night in Greymouth and then head back to the city the following day as Nath and I were back at work on the Monday. However we soon
ummm...end of girlie night.....!
This bucking bronco is in one of the bars in town ! I could barely walk for about 3 days after this stunt.... discovered on arriving there was absolutely nothing going on there ! Was a very strange place. So we took refuge in the first bar we could find and had a great night !
Another weekend trip was spent with Veronica (who I worked with) and her boyfriend Simon, they're travelling here too and also have a little van, so we all headed off to a place called Lake Coleridge, not all that far from Christchurch, near Mount Hutt. It was really beautiful down there, and nobody around other than a few local fishermen. It was lovely and sunny although bloomin cold and extremely windy ! But we managed to set up a nice little camp and cook ourselves up some dinner on the fire which was nice.
With the weather starting to get a bit better after winter we managed to get out and about a bit more, theres some really lovely walks around Christchurch in the hills not far from where Mark and Zoe were living. We went over on a little ferry as well to a place called Diamond Harbour which was really nice. Parked ourselves in one of the only beer gardens we've found here
On the Transcenic from East to West
Nath, Becky and I went on the transcenic train from Christchurch through the mountains to Greymouth on the West coast. Is a stunning journey, especially with all the snow, just bloomin cold ! Has awesome views too.
Most of our time in Christchurch was spent working and trying to get out and do things on the weekends if the weather was ok, counting down the days til we could hand in our notices ! (I absolutely hated my job with a passion!) We planned to still use our original flight to Fiji and just buy a flight back to New Zealand, where we'd then have a month left of work before Gareth arrived for his holiday and we hit the road !
