SWIMMING WITH DOLPHINS
Gearing up ready to go.......... On Friday Claire went swimming with Dolphins, the most rarest and smallest in the world 'Hector Dolphins' or some may call them 'New Zealand Dolphins' since they are only found in New Zealand. This was amazing and you were able to get up and close with them.... Although you wasn't able to touch them since they are very delicate and have scars, we could harm them and pass on diseases because of our bacteria but they came close enough. Shaun took video footage and pics from the boat. The whole experience lasted for 2hrs and I was in the water for well over a hour. There was only 10 swimmers at any one time, which was better and meant you didn't scare the dolphins - apparently they have poor eyesight and don't actually see you until they get close upto you. Overall, it was an excellent day and one I will cherish.
On Saturday (our last day and night in NZ) we visited Onuku (Maori Village) only 10mins away from Akaroa. As we drove around the village we stopped off at a chapel to take a look and spoke to a few locals who said there was a Maori Wedding
at 3.30 p.m. and that we was welcome to join in the celebrations. Sadly, we couldn't stick around as we had to head back to Christchurch to drop off the car and check in our hotel near the Airport - it would have been great to see though. The village was lovely and very traditional. On route back to Christchurch we stopped off at Barry's Cheese Factory to sample some of the cheese inc. some wine tasting, which was great. They gave you an insight to how they make the cheese and we ended up buying some chedder and biscuits, which was yummy!
