The first thing we noticed about the South Island in between jaw-cracking yawning was the sandflies (aka Blackflies) they are not as bad as mossies, but they are a close second. They bite and have no fear to swiping or insect repellent it seems, you have to be unmerciful and just crush them as soon as possible. Can you believe this. Never been stung her life til this. Now I have been mocking her for freaking out everytime a Bee/Wasp whatever comes near, but I did laugh first at her freakout list of what was gonna happen then feel sorry, as she pulled the pain face.

So glad to see this at the end of the track. After 25km's this was a welcome sight. I felt fine. Laura less-so, but lets blame the sting for that.
