Nearing arrival to the South Island on calm seas, via the 'InterIslander' ferry, is a beautiful introduction to the more relaxed and arguably (and perhaps unbelievably) more scenic southernly half of New Zealand. As we closed the door to the ambulance station, our shift came to a somewhat anticlimactic end. No big send off, no tearful farewells, in fact, no bugger all. But that was how we’d wanted it, choosing not to have a leaving party because, lets face it, we weren’t really leaving. However, this would be the last time we would see our place of work for a whole year.
