Horrible hostel to stay in Base Aukland. We had a double with no window it was the worst descision - the room smelt so bad and was dirty. Headed to hot water beach today, on the way we stopped off at Cathedral Cove nice 30 minute walk to see it (where the sea and wind had wore the rock away and created a cove) I went for a swim in the sea and got thrown around in the big waves, it was that powerful. We got to hot water beach accomodation which was so nice, a new holiday park. There was six of us in a room with friends from the bus. We had a bbq even though the weather wasn't that great and sat around the outdoor sofas and tv area. We then got our spades and headed for the beach where we started digging our hole in the sand to find hot water. It was dissapointing as our pool was luke warm where as the Germans next to us had boiling hot water. We occasionally got waves of hot water our way - which we hope was hot water springs and not people weeing. Basically the reason you get hot water is because it is a very volcanic area. We walked through poeples holes and it was so hot people had red skin on their bums and legs from the water burning. You could see the steam coming off the water, which rubbed it in to our luke warm water that we had been digging for, for ages. M x
