8th - 10th December 2008 Orewa

Orewa is a busy place as it's not far from Auckland. We visited the very pretty Wenderholme Regional Park where there are some great walks. We walked up to a great viewpoint where we could see the estuary, sea and the park itself. We were trying to find the NZ North Island robin, and, as luck would have it, we bumped into a girl who worked for the park. She was monitoring their numbers and to do so she was feeding them meal-worms. She showed us where a pair of robins were, with their young, and let us feed them. They're quite a rare and very sweet bird. Like the UK robin, they are quite bold and came to feed really close to us. It was a wonderful moment.
