2nd December 2008 Ngawha Hot Springs

This was a strange little place, off the beaten track. A Kiwi guy we chatted to on one of the campsites recommended for us to go there. He said it was very rough around the edges and not the prettiest place, but that the pools were great, and really cheap (sounded good to us!). We decided to give it a go.

The lady running the place was lovely and directed us down to the changing rooms (very rustic) and the pools. The pools were boxed in, but apart from that, completely natural, so they looked very murky and brown. Even so, once you get in them, they're lovely. They were all different temperatures ranging from about 21 - 52 degrees. It was so relaxing - no-one else was there, so we enjoyed trying out all the different temperatures, even managing the hottest one (not for long though). There was a little campsite on the land too - I wish we had known, as I would have planned the day differently and stayed at the site. It was very peaceful and had a lovely, almost hippy feel to it.
