Black Labyrinth Adventure

So as if the Skydive wasn't enough, we had the adventure of the Waitomo Glow worm caves the next day!!!

Basically, this involved getting dressed up in rediculous wet suites, white wellies, helmets and shorts... making us look somewhat like cyber ravers!! Karen spent a full 15 minutes laughing at me before she could even speak!

Once kitted out, we got to choose a rubber inner-tube, which would be our companion underground. We were then dunked in a stream, to test our backwards jumping skills before we actually went underground.

The actual caves were really cool. We walked and crouched and tripped our way through near blackness, with pretty strong currents of water rushing round our feet, followed by backwards jumps, with our bottoms stuck in the rings over 2 or 3 foot waterfalls. Pretty dramatic stuff!

After this we took a rather leisurely float through pitch black glow worm caves, which is basically not worms at all, but mosquito like maggots with glowing poo! Really great sight though.

Floating in the darkness was pretty ace, although the feeble attempts by the guides to frighten us with sloshing noises and bangs was laughable...

Good fun all in all though, although blooming freezing! Well deserved toasted bagel and soup finished the trip off nicely!!!

Spent the next couple of days getting down to Wellington. Passed without much interest or event... although it did mean I got to sit and watch a full days cricket yesterday! Not doing to well : - ( Sent Karen to get her hair cut to keep her entertained whilst I polished off a few pints of Export!

Sat writing this in an internet cafe in Wellington, passing the time before our 1.55am ferry crossing to the South Island, where we will pick up this magical adventure...
