Tauranga, New Zealand, North Island - December 20th - 4:22pm
Well today didn’t start out so well. Lee and I got woken up at 7:50am, Luc was on the other end saying that he just got a call from Guest Relations saying that no one was at the desk and to do something about it. So Lee did his superman change and ran to the desk. Can anyone guess who’s day it was to open the desk (if you read Lee’s blogs you might know)…JC. So this is the second time since I’ve been on board that JC has screwed over the team. So Marcella and JC showed up shortly after Lee. JC just slinked in the back as if nothing was wrong, never apologized to anyone. Lee came back, showered and was on his way to dispatch. I luckily had a few more minutes of shut eye.
Lee called me at 9:30 saying that I was to meet him on the pier at 10:15am to catch the bus to Jet Boating. Lee showed up just as I was getting ready and we were going to head up to have a quick bite to eat but silly Lee changed out
of his uniform and couldn’t be bothered to change back into it. So I went to have a quick breakie, the joys once again of being a passenger.
So I finally met back up with Lee on the pier and loaded the bus. We were on the way to the Jet Boats. About 30mins later we arrived at the farm. They took us on a tour of the farm before the Jet Boats. They showed us how Kiwi Fruit are farmed. We finally got down to the river and joined the Jet Boats. The numbers were a little mixed up so I originally had to go on the tour by myself but they somehow worked out and Lee joined me. We got our lifejackets on and boarded the boats. Darin was our tour guide; he was pretty funny but really good. He didn’t waste any time and started out with a 360 degree turn, where they took pictures for us to purchase…surprise surprise. We then continued down the river, doing twists and turns and loopdy loops until we got to the rapids. We were in the middle of the forest, after we passed the rapids Darin turned off the
engine and we just sat slowly drifting down the river listening to all the wildlife around us. It was absolutely fascinating. I loved every minute of it, we saw a few waterfalls and then headed back to camp. On our way back Darin the daredevil asked if we wanted to do some of the turns a little harder and faster, no one objected so that is precisely what we did.
Everyone had a great time, we had a few water droplets on us but it was great fun. We made it safely back to the truck which took us through the rest of the farm back to have morning tea. On the way we stopped to feed the animals. I got out and feed the sheep, donkey, and cow. I thought it was a lot of fun. I think I may have enjoyed it more than the kidums.
They had some desserts and small sammies but I just went straight for the kiwi fruit. They had green kiwis (which we usually see in Canada) and golden kiwis. The golden ones aren’t much different just a little sweeter and more of a golden colour then green, pretty straight forward.
The oddest part of the day came next. We were told that there was a pond of eels that they rescued/captured from the rapids in the river. Lee and I went in search of them. We found them and I was grossed out. They were large snakes with fins and swimming, yuck. We were about to leave the pond when the South African family came in, the mom reached into the pond and began petting the eel. That’s right I said petting the eel. I couldn’t believe it, the eel backed away at first but then seemed to enjoy it. I told Lee to get out of there quick so we weren’t witnesses of the eel attacking the lady. We never heard any screams or stories so I guess she got away safely. I am still baffled that she reached in to pet the eel; there are some crazy people in this world.
We got away from the Kiwi Fruit farm and trucked our way to the Bee shop. We learned all about bees; their history and how the make honey, etc. I tested some honeys but I wasn’t a fan of them so I didn’t purchase any;
but I did try bee’s pollen. As they say Bee’s Pollen is better than multi-vitamins. It’s natural and it’s only missing a vitamin or mineral to be classified as a multi-vitamin. It actually tasted quite sweet.
We loaded the bus and were missing 2 passengers so Lee got off in search of them. The bus then began to drive away. I looked around and Lee still wasn’t on the bus so I ran to the front to tell the bus driver and everyone laughed at me as apparently we were just moving closer to where the passengers were. I was a little scared but we didn’t leave anyone behind. The guests claimed that they had 45 minutes and went to the antique store instead, well I hate to break it to you but sometimes tours leave early from places; Silly people trying to run away.
We got back to the ship just in time to relax and send Lee on his way to work. I wasn’t able to relax much as I was going to go and assist them in printing the pre-paid tickets and getting ready for the upcoming cruise.
11:14pm
So I got my first glimpse
of shore ex. I enjoyed it, but I think that’s because I laughed at everything that was happening, as it didn’t really affect me. JC arrives, checked his email for 20mins then has the nerve to say that he’s going for dinner. Dude you had all day to eat and you choose to eat after 20mins of your shirt starting…not cool. Needless to say the group wasn’t impressed. I hear Lee telling these stories of how ridiculous people are and you sometimes think that he makes them up because the stories are really that ridiculous. Well I’ll vouch for him, the stories aren’t made up…they are real. That is just how ridiculous the guy is. He didn’t help with the pre-paids at all, he just did his own thing, as the spa girls was call it ‘He WAFTED’ (Waste of Fucking Time).
After I had my fun at the office, I went back to the room to relax, until Lee called me to go have dinner. Lee and I were joined by Francesca and Charmaine. We had a good dinner, but I wasn’t very hungry as it was pretty rocky outside, tummy gets queasy. Lee called Flavio after dinner
and we were informed that we had to pack up and switch rooms, so we hall everything down to Lee’s cabin to move back up somewhere tomorrow! Lol and the kicker is that Flavio said we might even be back in the same cabin but he can’t promise anything. Lee and I don’t want to step on any ones toes so we do what Mr. Flavio says!
Nighty night for now. Have a great flight Mom and Dad! I love you lots!
