Wednesday 18th February - Taupo

Hello!

After a quiet night out in Wellington (ending up in a Karaoke bar until 2am - don't worry we didn't sing, this time : ) our fabulous new driver Damo drove us to Taupo. Another great scenic drive and wonderful commentary! We passed Mount Doom - featured in Lord of the Rings don't ya know! Arrived nice and early for a chnage just in time for lunch! Damo offered to drive us to Huka Falls which was amazing, the water is so clear and the scenery was great too. We decided to have a picnic by the river opposite the Huka Falls Lodge where the Queen and Bill Clinton have stayed (not at the same time!) Took a stroll back to Urban Retreat where were staying and managed to fall asleep books in hand for 3 hours - must have been the wine we had with our lunch! Decided to take a walk around Taupo and low and behold ended up in another Karaoke bar! We intended to stay for one drink until a local wedding party persuaded us to join in with their celebrations so ended up having a couple more - on them of course! Well we are backpackers ; )
