The next island
Leaving Nelson behind us, we drove the Queens Charlotte Drive into the Malborough Sounds. In Kaikura, one of our main goals on this journey, we managed to see whales! 2 Sperm Whales and a couple of albatrosses. On an ocean drive back to Picton more Fur seals crossed our way. We took the interisland ferry to the north island, where we arrived exhausted in Wellington.
Wellington offered us an awesome view on the scenic ocean drive. Furthermore we saw the "beehive" parlament and the civic sqare. The wonderful museum of art, history and natural science - Te Papa - was really good to visit. check out the Kiwi pictures if you haven't seen any yet!
300 km further north we stopped at Napier, the Art Deco city. All the houses are really impressive and good kept! Te Mata, a close peak, gave us a 360 degree view of the area - the vineyards, the hills and Hawke's Bay! Further throught hills and past waterfalls we arrived at Lake Taupo, where we relaxed in order to have enough energy for a wicked day in the volcanic region - seeing mud pools, geysiers and hot springs!
Die naechste Insel!
Nachedm wir Nelson hinter uns gelassen haben, sind wir entland des Queen Charlotte Drives in the Malborough Sounds gefahren. Danach hat unser Weg weiter nach Kaikura gefuehrt, wo einer unserer Hauptattraktionen wartete: Wale! Wir hatten Glueck und sahen 2 Wale und einige Albatrosse!
Wieder in Richtung Norden, am Ozean entlang, haben wir eine riesige Kolonie von Robben gefunden. In Picton sind wir dann auf die Faehre auf die Nordinsel gestiegen! In Wellington angekommen, haben wir einen schoenen Weg - wieder entlang dem Ozean - erkundet, das Parlament gesehen, das wie ein Bienenstock aussieht, und sind auf den Civic Platz gegangen.
Das riesige Museum, Te Papa, war einfach eindrucksvoll: Kunst, Kulut, Geschichte und Naturgeschichte war sehr bildhaft dargestellt!Wir haben Fotos von Kiwis raufgeladen, fals du noch keine gesehen hast!
300 km weiter noerdlich habenw ir Napier bewundert. Eine Stadt rein im Art Deco Stil. Echt beeindruckend! Danach haben wir auf Te Mata, einem kleinen Gipfel eine super Aussicht gehabt: ueber die Weinstoecke, die gesamten Huegelregionen und die Hawke's Bucht.
Weiter an Wasserfaellen vorbei und ueber viel Huegel sind wir in Lake Taupe angekommen, wo wir angehalten haben um fuer die Vulkanlandschft Energie zu sammeln, immerhin wollen wir Geysiere, Hiesswasserquellen udn
viele verschiedenen Schlamm- und Sulfurbecken sehen!
