The Lizzie Bell Memorial Cemetery, Pihama

Just a short distance from the main road at Pihama lies the Lizzie Bell Memorial Cemetery. It is worth a quick visit if you have an interest in NZ maritime history.

The Lizzie Bell was an iron barque that struck a rock, causing its 18 officers and crew to abandon ship. In the cemetery is a memorial for those who didn't survive.

There is a toilet available but be warned that the door sticks when the weather is wet. The curtain at the window made me laugh.
