Well it's raining, again. Seems to be rainy season right now haha. Meike and I stopped in at a rental car place and ended up with a car for $49 for a day and a half because the lady didn't want to come in to work on sunday so she gave the car to us for an extra half a day. Score for us! It's a little blue toyota corolla. Sweet as! I drove the car and parked it at the Polynesian spa because we were going there later and had planned to meet up some girls from the hostel at the info centre. By the time they met up with us though it was pouring out and we were meant to do a walk around the city. So the four of ran back to the car and piled in and I drove us out to Rainbow springs.

It's just like an outdoor park that has all different kinds of New Zealand birds in cages and a spring full of rainbow trout. The fish are HUGE. So we walked around there looking at all the birds and then saw a kiwi bird in a darkened enclosure. But we did see one moving around. They are really really interesting birds. They don't fly, their wings are the size of your pinky finger. Their beaks are really long and quite thin. They move surprisingly fast.

They has some other animals to look at as well. We all piled into the car again and I drove us back to the main part of the city and the rain had sort of stopped for a bit. Meike and I went for lunch after dropping the other girls off in the city and then we drove ourselves back to the spa.

It cost $20 NZD to enter the spas but really it's just 8 different pools of warm spring water. We changed into our "togs" hehe (thats kiwi for swimsuits) and hopped into one pool that overlooked Lake Rotorua. THe water doesn't smell good (rotten eggs mmm) but it was nice and hot. We did a bit of pool hopping around and spent about 3 hours there.

Had a nice shower to get rid of the bad smell, did some laundry and then made dinner. Our ticket to rainbow springs lets us in for 24 hours so we headed back there after dark to see some kiwi birds at night outside in the cages. You have to be really quiet not to scare them. They are such fascinating creatures.
