In the Zorb
August 4th.
Zorb of the Rings.
This morning we woke up nice and early and headed off to Rotorua. We smelt it before we saw it. The town is in the middle of a geothermal area, so sulfur was in the air. Our first stop was the Zorb place. Zorbing is you get in this inflated ball that is huge. They put water in the ball and seal you in. Then you are sent rolling down a hill. They also have a ball that you can get strapped into and roll down, but that was unavailable due to the weather. The weather all day today has been chilly and raining. Mark and I went down the hill together. It was so much fun. I could do it over and over again. The water they put in the ball is warm and so much better than the cold rain. When you are in the ball you really can’t see anything outside so you don’t know when you are going to stop. You just keep sliding around the ball. If you EVER get the chance to Zorb, DO IT! There is a Zorb place in England, and in Tennessee. It is a bit

expensive, but oh so much fun! My stomach hurt from laughing all the way down the hill.
After the Zorb, we went into town and saw some geothermal stuff, but it was raining so we are going to another place in a couple more days, and hopefully the weather will be nicer. We left Rotorua and the sulfur behind and drove an hour west to Matamata. Matamata is one of the places Lord of the Rings (LOTR) was filmed and is the only set that is still there. We took a tour of the set, and even though I have never seen the movie or read the books, it was really good. The set is in the middle of a huge sheep farm. They drive you in and then the tour is walking. It was raining so handling an umbrella, a camera and sheep poop everywhere got a bit difficult.
After the tour, I drove us to Waitamo Caves. We are staying at this fun place near the caves called Woodlyn Park. We are in a hobbit hotel. There are two units in the side of the hill. Inside it is really nice and big. The other “hotels” on the

property are an old train, an old fighter jet, and they are currently building a boat you can stay in. It is still currently raining so unfortunately we are unable to go for a walk and see the glowworms. But we will see a whole cave of them tomorrow. So now we are relaxing with a bottle of Caymus wine and planning our zorb trip in the Uk.
