The days are flying by! We are just leaving Napier, was so nice.
The ferry from Picton to Wellington was a rough, overcast and windy with 2-3 mitre waves. Wellington was overcast and really windy, thought it would blow the car off the road. Drove straight to Napier, about 3/4's of the way there the clouds disappeared and the interior of the car started heating up. We found a tent site at Kennedy Holiday Resort. It's a huge but lovely holiday park run by the municipality, very close to CBD (central business district). Nice kitchens, bbq, pools, etc. Day one we wandered around checked out the town and looked at the architecture. There was a big earthquake here in 1931 so all the rebuild is Art Deco. We went and saw the film at the Art Deco Society about the earthquake, very interesting. There was a free concert in the square Friday night, complete with food trucks, it was good and the weather was perfect. Saturday we visited Hastings and found a track meet at the sports centre. We stayed to watch and didn't get home until after dark! Sunday we walked up Te Mata peak, way too far and

steep in the 33 degree heat, but well worth it once we got to the top. Sunday evening we watched a ship being unloaded at the port then it was straight to bed. Monday we walked the Marine Parade then drove to the top of Te Mata Peak, walked out onto a knoll, sat and contemplated life. A quick dip in the ocean to cool off oand it was time to grab some groceries and have supper. Okay I have to admit, something nipped at my foot in the ocean and I screamed. Like I said the days fly by. Packed up the morning and we are headed for Taupo, only 144 km. which takes about 2 hours. Bob and I both had to buy hats, mine is a Schools brand, meant for 3-7 year olds with a spot to write your name and class number. Bob's is a Gilligan hat. Bob has been singing a couple of lines from a song, over and over again. He finally looked the rest of it up online, and it's so redneck. Look it up on YouTube "Put Another Log On The Fire".
