PaihiaPaihiaPaihia

The amazing beach town of Paihia.
Our bus left early in the morning to take us to Paihia and the Bay of Islands region of the North Island. Glen, our bus driver, was so much fun! He kept us entertained on the bus ride. On the way to Paihia we stopped at a little place called Sheepworld. There is a farmstay option there for those who chose it but we continued on our way to the Bay of Islands. There were not many sheep at Sheepworld. Later in the year they do shows and performances (not sure what all is included in these shows - sheep jumping though hoops?) but we didnt see any. Off in the distance on the rolling hills there were little white dots (sheep) but none up close. We did see chickens, pigs, goats, and dogs though! There was a nice little cafe there and a few people ate but I was too busy taking pictures so when I finally decided that I wanted something to eat, it was too late and the bus was leaving! Almost left without me! We continued on our way to Paihia, windy roads through the countryside of New Zealand. Mountains covered in all different types of trees

as far as the eye could see. Pictures dont capture the scenery! There were also all kinds of plants that we could see on the side of the roads, tree ferns (huge trees that look like palm trees but they are actually ferns) and all different types of flowers and ferns (the fern is New Zealand's national symbol).

We arrived in Paihia at our hostel - located RIGHT on the beach! So beautiful!! We all ate at a little beachside cafe before we walked around and explored Paihia and spent the day on the beach! Just relaxing, enjoying the sounds of the ocean, the view, and the fact that we were in such an amazing little town! We walked around the little touristy shops and bought some ice cream before heading back to our hostel. There were such cute little kids and their mom getting ice cream at this little street shop. Accents are so cute when they come from kids... well, accents in general are awesome, but kids with accents are adorable!

We traveled back to our hostel to shower and get ready for the night. There was a BBQ going on that night at the X-base

bar right down the street. We headed there and got some awesome food. Met Nico, from Germany, and Sara, from Montana. We all became what you might call fast friends and we spent the rest of the night with them hanging out at the bar and 'hopping' to all the other little bars on the strip. Clubbing in New Zealand haha! They played really good music and we were all dancing and having a good time. They had pretty good drink specials going on - especially on Export Gold beer - which was really good! We spent some time down by the water before we headed back to the hostel. It was a great day/night in Paihia! We all thought it was so beautiful and we didnt want to leave!
