Edit Blog Post
Well just when you thought it was safe to sign off the computer....It happens again.
This is the last blog which we will post for this trip so it will be shorter than normal...Yahoo!!
We arrived back safely into Nairobi for our last night before departure or home and as with all the plans, safaris and activities on this trip it went without hitch and smooth as silk. We had a great flight back over Tanzania and Kenya and because we were in a twin propeller aircraft we got to fly fairly low so passed over the top of Mount Kilimanjaro which was pretty cool to see. We spent the night at the same place we had stayed on our first pass through Nairobi, Eco Wildebeest Camp, which is in the nicer suburbs of Nairobi and was a great way to spend our last night of holiday time. In the morning we sat and had breakfast and watched as two Sykes monkeys sat on the roof of the tent and generally caused mayhem by fighting with each other until one slid off the side of the roof. It was a good reminder that even in
the suburbs of a large city there are wild animals everywhere.
We had about four hours to kill before we needed to head to the airport so decided to go to a local mall to get a decent cup of coffee and have a wander around. While looking in a book shop I saw a coffee table book of photos called “The stars of Big cat diary”. This book chronicled the years of filming which the BBC did in conjunction with a guy called Jonathan Scott which as some of you may recall was turned into a popular BBC series following the lives of the big cats of the Maasai Mara. Now for those who know me well I have a lot of Jonathan Scott’s book and used one of his quotes regularly during this trip “If I could spend one day in Africa it would be on the Maasai Mara”...well just when you thought the adventure was over, Steph and I sat down to have a coffee and who should be sitting opposite but Jonathan Scott himself. Now being the shy retiring guy that I am I immediately ran to the local bookshop and purchased the
Big Cat Diary book and asked him to sign the front cover for us. I suppose that this guy must be bothered by weirdos like us (or at least weirdos like me) regularly but he was great and sat down with us and chatted for about quarter of an hour before he had a local take a photo of us and then shook our hands and left. It was a great way to finish our time in Nairobi and I won’t wash my hand for at least a day?
Anyway where was I? Ah yeah I am writing this blog while sitting in the Perth transit lounge where we have a 6 hr layover awaiting an early evening flight to Auckland so I am not expecting any adventures here but will keep an ever eagle eye open for any unsuspecting celebrities and get ready to pounce should the need arise...I will finish this blog on our arrival back into NZ and say a few last profound words which I’m sure you can’t wait to hear!!?
Well we are now back in NZ safe and sound and as I mentioned earlier all the plans which we made
have all gone off without a hitch and we have all travelled without sickness, worries or hassles so now the next excitement is getting back to work!!
As promised I have stuck some profound?? quotes below but before then I will just say that this has probably been the most amazing adventure of Steph and I have had thus far. To have the opportunity to visit the amazing places, see the mind blowing wildlife and meet some fantastic people has been a real privilege and one which will stay with us for years to come..So without any further ado here are the promised quotes
“Your life is like a book and if you haven’t travelled then you have just read one page” and the other classic “It’s not about the destination but about the journey to get there” but I think I will finish this blog on my personal favourite and one which I have quoted many times “Be bold and courageous, when you look back on life you will regret the things you didn’t do more than the things you did”
Thanks for taking the time to read our blogs and see
ya next time
