Hey Everyone,
So I figured it was about time I wrote a blog to let everyone know what I have been up to for the past few months! Can't quite believe how long ago I left the UK.
Well, where to start. Camp was great fun as ususal. The kids kept us all on our toes and I met some more great people. A few highlights/amusing moments:
- Hiring an inflatable obstacle course for Chris's Birthday. Before the kids arrived we spent an evening as staff behaving like big kids, racing one another to the end with a bit of foul play thrown in, pushing, pulling and generally doing everything we could to ensure our opposition did not win!
- Nerf War - yes, yet again acting like children and firing foam darts at one another in an attempt to win a tournament. We even had an obstacle course made of theatre flats courtesy of our technical deaprtment, plus some some thrown in for good measure. Im pleased to say my team won...and needless to say we gloated a lot having beaten a group of the technical team boys in the final.
- Building an "office"

Chris and Rob battle it out from theatre flats at 2am in the morning outside in our courtyard area...a small protest from some of the team leaders who at present don't have a desk to work at. Seeing both the other staff and kids faces in the morning was just priceless.
- Swinging off a rope swing into a mountain lagoon (which was bloomin' FREEZING!)
- Having a child pee on one of my staff (sorry Lorna, had to get this one in). Its a long story, very accidental, but extreemly funny at the time!
- Evacuating most of the kids to our lowest theatre to sit out a tornado! Always interesting!
- Walking in on some of my kids who were sucktioning an empty Nutella jar to their boobs and finding it hilarious...they will never fail to make me laugh at their crazy antics! Needless to say I didnt stick around in their room for long and left them to it.
So after yet another fantasic and fun filled summer I continued my adventure with a trip to Alabama for the weekend. It was a really great weekend, with lots of time spent eating, drinking and generally being lazy on
Lagoon
About to jump into the FREEZING water...again! the sofa and trying to recover from camp. We took a visit to the Alabama football staduim which is HUGE, and its just for college football. Seemed crazy to me! I also discovered that Frat houses are REAL, and yes they do look like the movies! I have never seen anything like it before and cant imagine how much you pay to live in one.
I had a lovely week in Los Angeles with our family friends Chris and Alex. They really lookad after me well. I even went in to Alex's school to talk to a tech class about my work in Stage Management in London. It was a bit scary, but I think the kids enjoyed it. Took a trip to the Getty centre which is a huge art gallery set ontop of a hillside in LA. You take a tram up to the top and the building is quite amazing and has spectacular views of the city below. I was also spoilt and taken to the Hollywood Bowl to watch John Williams conduct the LA Philharmonic Orchestra playing pieces from his moveis (ET, Star Wars, Schindlers List etc etc). It was a really amaaing evening with
the sun setting and a full moon rising as the concert took place. Not something I will forget in a hurry.
My travels then took me to Sydney where I spent time with family. My cousins Alex and Lucy live in the city center so I enjoyed time with them. Alex and I visited a great art exhibition on Cockatoo Island. One Cockatoo Island there is an ond shipping yard and all the buildings had been filled with differed installations. Some you could walk through and touch, some were in the dark tunnels underneath, and others were outside. It was a really great afternoon. We also went to an event in the Australia museum called the Jurrasic Lounge. They open certain sections of the museum at night and have DJ's, Dancers, Performers etc doing their thing under the dinosaur skeletons, or in the underwater world. Its a lot of fun, although very strange to be allowed to be drinking beer and wander around. I think my most surreal moment was watching three girls dance to the Austin Powers theme tune whilst I was standing under a giant inflatable sperm whale! Well, its what travelling is all about I guess!

Our "office" I spent time on the coast with my other cousins Chris and Kerry. They live in a really stunning area right by the sea and I even went swimming, dragging Chris along too (although one we were at the beach he was in the water before me!). I took a cycle ride one day and was lucky enought to see huge pelicans at the waters edge, and enjoyed some really chunky chips in a seaside cafe. Chris took me to a lovely gorge one day, but the water was freezing!
I also visited a family friend Carole who took me to Canberra, Australia's capital. It is a purpose built city. We attemded a flower festival called Floriade, where all spring flowers had been planted in various shapes, Top Hats, Lips, Shoes etc. It was very beautiful. We also visted their Parliament House and had a tour. A lovely building that has been built into a hillside, so you aare able to stand on top of it. The idea being that the politicians are never looking down on the people, but the people can look down on them. Its a great idea and the view from the top of

The inside of the "office" we built oureslves! the hill is pretty lovely too.
And now I am in Auckland! It feels strange to think I will probably be in this country until April time, but I am really excited to see where I end up. There are all sorts of ideas in my head at the moment, goodness knows what will happen.
Mum and Dad fly in tomorrow to join me for a month. We have hired a campervan and are planning to travel around all over the place... lets hope we don't kill one another by the end!
So, more updates to follow soon. Hope everyone at home is well! x
