Auckland Lantern festival Auckland life
So Matt and I are nearing the end of living in Auckland. We shall be leaving in April to venture out across the north island and then down through to the south for the New Zealand Winter. Snow ahoy!
We made it through Christmas! Was weird not having family dinners to go to and it being so hot and all. Matt and I hit the beach with a disposable BBQ and lots of goodies, including wine, strawberries the lot! We even made a little hello and happy Christmas video for you guys and yes I was a little merry! From watching the video back you can tell Matt is the cool cat in our relationship and I am the goofball! I didn’t feel so much in the Christmas spirit so I decided to make a Christmas tree from what I could find in our recycle bin! Looking at the finished product I was quite impressed!! It made quite the feature in our kitchen and somewhere to keep all our presents, cards and advent calendars. We would like to thank everyone for putting in so much effort in sending us cards and gifts! It was so wonderful to

Matts bungy! eek! be thought of and made our far away Christmas more homely.
For our New Years Eve we set sail on an evening fireworks cruise we set sail at 8pm and was lovely to see Auckland lit up at night from the sea. There was food, a bar, even a band on board! Unfortunately I did end up having a little too much of the good stuff and began to feel a little ill. I have learnt that Olivia plus wine plus the sea isn’t a great combination!
In January we managed to fit in a few local activities such as going dolphin and whale watching with Matts Company. We saw so many dolphins are a few Brutus Whales, unfortunately no Orca. We walked around the top of the sky tower (please see video on facebook, may amuse you as to how horrified I was!) Matt jumped off the sky tower, I did not! I was far too freaked out! I was ok before the walk, well ok before we got into the lift. The lift to the top of the sky tower has a see through floor and until one girl mentioned ‘oh look how high we are’

Walking around the sky tower! then I freaked out! Matt did a bungy jump from the Auckland Bridge. He made it look so easy and effortless he loved it! We then both walked to the top of the bridge. We also visited a sea life aquarium. We attended big a day, a huge local festival with a great line up of Kasabian, Dizzie, Lily Allen, Muse, Groove Armada and lots more!
On the 26th January Matt and I took a few days out to visit Lyn and Gill his granny’s friends up in the Bay of Islands. (Please see Bay of Islands Blog)
The 2nd February was our one year anniversary. Matt came home with a bunch of flowers and had organized for us to go out for dinner on one of his work boats the pride of Auckland. We had a lovely meal and got to sail the boat. Afterwards we had a few drinks in the harbor with some of Matt’s work mates. They proceeded to embarrass us by having the band call out it was our year anniversary and wished us a good evening just as we were leaving! I was very embarrassed, everyone turned to look at us, and

Dance tent at big day out! the bar was full!
On the 15th February Matt and I took three days out to go to Rotarua. (Please see Rotarua blog)
Our house mates Annie and Josh have bought a kitten, her name is Lily. She is tiny and thankfully potty trained! She’s very cute but crazy!
On the 25th February we went to see Prodigy perform, oh my gosh what a great time we had! Matt and I danced our butts off it was great! Such a great atmosphere! We hoped on an organized buss to get us to the venue but we arrived with two hours to spare before the gig. Thankfully there was a bar nearby so Matt and I had a few drinks and a meal beforehand.
Auckland celebrated the Chinese New Year with a lantern festival. Matt and I did not think it would be much but when we got there we were amazed by what we saw! Fantastic displays and a whole street full of Asian food stalls, yum! it was as if we were thrown back to Asia!
