So after leaving New Zealand... in a foul mood as i had to pay air port tax!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's off to Fiji.
BULA!!!
Arrived early evening and was met by my mini tour organisers (i.e i went to their office). Here I got my vouchers for all transport and meals and accommodation. The first evening I stayed at the Aquarius Pacific Hotel where they put on a fire dance and we saw some traditional Fijian dancing and some crazy dancing with FIRE!!!!
It was up early on the 15th to get the big yellow boat to my first port of call... South Sea island. Now for some reason i thought all islands will have ports. I was wrong. Transport from the big yellow boat to the islands were done by smaller boats. Thankfully though my first trip was 2 minutes (or so i thought) It turns out that I was doing my extra activity of a days sailing on the seaspray boat. (i was starting to get a theme here)
Anyway, eventually on board the Seaspray i learnt I'll be visiting a small village and and Modriki (the island where they filmed castaway the movie) The village
Views from Kuatas summit
After a massive climb the views were worth it was cool and we learnt about the schooling and general lives. Sadly due to it being a Sunday we missed the traditional welcome and Kava (Though later not i was not sad i missed out on Kava)
The Castaway island is deserted and it was nice to laze on the beach. I was told for any film fans the areas in which he fished and where the cave was (Means nothing to me but you can get excited)
After enjoying the free bar and food it was back to southsea where i learnt the generator was broken and therefore we had no electricity. This did not spoil out fun but instead strengthened the bond between new friends (or for a more accurate description - drinking games)
The second day on south sea i really relaxed and enjoyed a leisurely snorkel afternoon tea and a trip on the yellow submarine which i kind of like a glass bottomed boat but you didn't look down you were sat underwater. (if that makes sense). Here we saw some huge untouched coral which looked pretty cool. Once again the generator hadn't been fixed so we were entertained with crab races (Jeff and Santa's little helper didn't get past the 1st leg) and also a quiz. I now know where Britney stayed!!!
The Island opposite us (ish) was Bounty Island where a tv show called '"celebrity" love island' was filmed. Our beloved host said she met Kelly Brook(e) and didn't like her.
The next two nights were spent on Kuata. Here it was time to get really lazy as Anthony, Diane and I all commented that every activity we would do tomorrow. Till we actually left without doing a thing. Okay I did walk up a big hill and watched the sunset.
Our first night on the island we had a traditional Fijian night. First up we drank Kava. The tradition is that you can't turn it down and you don't leave until it is finished. Kava is a plant root and it's put in a bag and then added to water (bit like a giant tea bag). It also tastes like dish water. It's the traditional drink and is not alcoholic but it is said that it is a bit like a drug. Luckily due to dinner being served we were allowed to leave and i enjoyed what i know best!! Cocktails. Especially as the bar man (Happy) loved me and constantly checked on how well i was drinking.
The meal we had to eat with our fingers as well. Now being someone who used to happily do that at home i found it really hard and kept wanting to reach for my knife and fork. We then joined in with the Bula dance (bit like the macarena) and a fun game of musical chairs. In the evening and around the bonfire i was chatting to some locals. One asked me to draw England in the sand. I drew an interesting version of the UK and point out where i was from and where London was (and how i lived no where near London!!!) He then asked to point out where our international airport when i added about the 5th dot I noticed he was shocked by the amount. Especially when he drew Fiji (much better than mine) and pointed out their only international airport.
So after the joy of Kuata it was the back on the yellow cruiser to Sanawia island. Here it was basically just my mini tour group staying. Our mini boat journey was entertaining as it was the longest I've been on. The guy said it'll be 10 minutes due to the fact we had to take a longer route as it was low tide. Every few minutes he would also stop and tell us it is dangerous here... the boat could tip. It made a very interesting trip. Especially when he wore his hard hat and gave us life jackets.
We spent our 2 days on Sanawai just relaxing and sunbathing. One of the entertaining points came when Anthony (a welsh man) walked into a goat on his walk back from the village and an evening on Kava (vodka and rum). Well you can imagine the jokes.
So that pretty much sums up the first week. I'm currently writing week 2 which is just as entertaining. I've also found the spell checker so if you find a mistake be proud as their was at least 20 others.
