Bula!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Fiji for hello incase you couldn't suss that one!)
Well, just got back from 5 days of pure chilling in Fiji and it was absolutely amazing...by far the most laid back and beautiful place I have ever been too! Loved every second of it!
Me and sar flow on Thurs afternoon and got to Nadi (the main island) at teatime...we had to saty there one night as the boats to the islands weren't leaving til the next morning! So booked into Smuggler Cove hostel and settled for the night! Was good night of sitting by the bar over looking the sea necking of Fiji Gold's (surprisingly nice cheap beer!)...met a few people there...an Aussie guy called Adam who was pretty call, and Gary from...go on, take a guess, yep, he was a Hullian! Whoop!!! He wasa funny guy, but then us Hullians always are hey! Then Nik joined us later (she was on a later flight then us!)...more drinks then bed! not that any of us actually slept that night! The dorm that we were in must have had at least 50 people in there, and it was not like it was a big room! Roll over and
you were in someone elses bed! And you can always guarantee that we would be put next to the fat snoring guy!!! Everyone in the room was chucking stuff at him and getting really hacked off!!! Part of the experience I guess!
The next morning we got up and made our way to the northern Yasawa Islands! The boat took 4 hours and drove around all the islands on the way up, dropping people off! And so got to see most of the place! We couldn't believe what we were seeing....clear bright turqouise water which you could see all the coral! And the islands...there were so many of them (suppose to be 300 of them!)...they were so tiny! Just little islands sticking out of the water which golden sand all around them and clear sea! Know I prob sound cheesy, but it really is breathe taking! So pretty almost don't believe you are there!
When we got to our first island, the Manta Ray island, we were greeted by the Fiji people on the beach signing to us! Was really cute and funny! Our island was tiny again, and there were only about 15 of us staying on
it! So it was so quiet and relaxed! Felt like we had been ship wrecked! The resort was fairly basic but nice at the same time! The showers we used were little cublicles with no real roof, so felt like you were showering in the rain! There was no hot water and it was salty as pumped straight from the sea! The dorm room was cute, with 15 of us in there! Like a big wooden hut! Was funny!!! The toilets were just holes into the ground! And there was nowhere to plug the hairdryer in...eek!!!! But really nice to live the simple life! Just works over there!
Spent the days totally relaxing! The resort had hammocks everywhere, so just settled in one of them with a book and that was us for the day! Except for the regular run to the sea as it was soooooo hot!!! Oh, and whe the drum was sounded we soon woke up to go for our dinner and tea! The food was gorgeous there...proper Fijian food! Was like a buffet with everything you could think of! Good although we ate like pigs...there was one point were we all had 3 plates of
food each on the table as there was so much to choose from!
The night times were spent at the bar (well, hut!)...Tooey (one of the staff members) would do things to keep us entertained, things that we would normally turn our noses up at for the cheese of it, but it was fun!! Did a crab race (all got a crab that actually looked like snails), mine came 3rd! Woohooo....I won....a free hug!!! Good hey! Then we did a limbo competition...I failed miserably! And then did the famous Bula (Fijian) dance...think Gina Gee Oh Ahhhh style with Fijian music! Was cringey but funny! Noone could do it without pissing their sides! Then on our last night we had camp fire on the beach! Was just soooo chilled!
Will defo go back to that island at some point in my life! We got talking to a Fiji guy called Lu Lu and he planted me and Sar a coconut tree so we will always be a part of the island (ha, gay but nice!!)!
Then it was on to the Beachcomber island! Was really looking forward to this one as the most famous island, renowned for the
partying! Couldn't believe how small the island was, it was so cute! When we arrived we decided to take a walk along the beach all the way around the island! Thought it would be a nice half hour walk....4 minutes (no lie) later we were back where we started! It that was small! Kinda reminded me of the Love Island (which is prob not too wierd as that was filmed on an island nearby!)...
We had a great time on this island but it wasn't as good as the Mantra Ray! The dorm that we stayed in was horrible! Kinda guessed we were in for trouble when I was given bed 99 when I arrived! Only 150 people bunged into one room (or wooden hut)...I have never seen so many bunk beds in my life! Couldn't sleep without facing at least 3 people! And as the resort was a party island everyone was so much younger than us! We really must be getting old coz a lot of them annoyed us! All out for the drink, the sleaze and making as much noise as possible! Which is such a shame on such a small island! But still had a
good time!
On the first night we met some guys who had stayed there a while and so gave us a Carva cermony! This is a tradional Fijian ceremony that they hold for new arrivals! You have to drink a root plant mixed with water! And it tasted disgusting...like muddy water! Luckily it was dark when we had it on the beach and so never realised it even looked like mud in a bowl! Then we had few more beers and chilled...think you had to be drunk to sleep in that dorm so perfect excuse to get pissed!
The next day we just chilled again, reading and sleeping! Me and Sar had a Fijian massage and it was soooo nice! Then Nik left at 5pm back to the mainland! Her flight was early the next morning so she had to leave the night before! Sad seeing her go off! Me and Sar just had tea (the food there was disgusting...on the first night it was a Sunday so they actually attempted to make a Sunday dinner...first one we had had in months and it was disgusting! And why do they think we want British food when gone all
the way to the other side of the world! can tell the clientele hey!)...
But despite the down points of the island it was still beautiful and had a really good time! We were sad to leave! Was defo the best place we have been to so far!
Anyone, hope your all well!
See you soon!
