Fremantle to Perth and around
We arrived and set up at a Big 4 14km from the city of Perth, cheaper than what we thought - $38 powered site/night.
The past few days we’ve explored the Perth Mint, Rottnest Island, Kings Park and some more amazing beaches.
Although we weren’t allowed to take photos inside the Mint, we did get to find out what our weight was worth in gold – Lach only being slightly more valuable than Sheree, having a value of around @ 2.5million dollars! We entered the ‘gold room’ where there were multiple set gold bars, as well as nuggets on the walls and tables for display. Although there were only 4 visible cameras in this area, the guide assured us there were over 100 hidden ones... this was NOT the time to pick your nose or dislodge your wedgie!
The next day we travelled on a combination of transports, starting with a ferry along the Swan River to discover some of the massive mansions on the riverfront, then headed to Rottnest Island. Here we picked up our ‘Rotto Express’ bikes and cycled off into the distance. Or at least Lachie cycled off into the distance
(the Island is very undulating, and even with an 18 speed bike Sheree’s legs were wondering what they’d done to deserve this punishment).
We went for a snorkel in a bay on the Northern side of the Island, with reasonable visibility to see some salmon and other smaller tropical fish.
The seagulls here were really inquisitive, and the quokkas very VERY cheeky. It was unfortunate to see stupid rich kids feeding quokkas red rooster, and I hope they introduce harsh fines – or maybe the quokkas could get some revenge. It only takes one bite, right Belinda?
Anyway, we continued along our cycle of the Island, and found a perfect spot to visit with our future Whittleys, good snorkelling, protected area and a great beach!
Not far away were some pelicans preening themselves in the shallow waters, we didn’t realise how magnificent and yellow their eyes are!
Over the next couple of days we ventured to King’s Park which gave spectacular views over the city, and then spent some quality time at Scarborough Beach body surfing the waves and enjoying the nice warm weather this April has brought us. (Same time last year we were all rugged up and headed
to Tarrawingee to camp for Easter!)
In our drive around the city (on our way to the petrol station actually), we stopped at some traffic lights to find a totally, undeniably, must be one of Western Australia’s most roadworthy vehicles!
We fuelled up at Caltex 52.5L @ 151.9c/L (less with a docket).
On our final night in the area, we headed to a great pizza pasta resteraunt in Freo to catch up with Lach’s cousin & hubby – Katie and Kevin. After a great night catching up with our family, we unfortunately had to leave the amazing seafood, beautiful deserts and oh so nice wine.
And so we continue our drive north!
187.5km’s this leg of the journey Total km’s so far this trip 6954.2km
