We had to check out for 10am so spent the rest of the morning in the campsite internet room passing the time until our airport pick up shuttle arrived.

This time I made sure that I had a camera to hand on the flight so that I could try to capture some of the amazing scenery from the air. Through the speckled glass windows it really wasn’t possible to capture just how beautiful the outback looked from the air. We flew over the endless red plains, patches of trees, perfectly straight bright orange lines which were dirt tracks and beautiful white salt lakes. I couldn’t take my eyes off the view as we flew over Kata Tjuta and Uluru for the last time. It was sad to see them fade out of sight.

A couple of hours later we landed in Perth. We were originally supposed to change planes and travel up to Broome, but Qantas had recently changed the flights so they no longer matched up and it meant staying overnight. As they were paying for us to stay in a hotel we didn’t mind too much.

We’d hoped for a luxury resort but instead got a motel. It was still fine as we weren’t paying and we got all of our food included. It was such a novelty having an ensuite and a big bed with no ants anywhere to be seen! There was a pool which looked inviting but as it was late afternoon we couldn’t be bothered to jump in so just enjoyed having a spider free shower before going down to dinner. We ate so much as we could as it was all on Qantas - a starter, main, side dishes, pudding and coffee each! I felt so ill after it as I’d overdone the dairy but it was worth it! It cost them £60 so we felt like we’d got our moneys worth! That will teach them to change our flight times again!
