...at the trail we hiked. Hello World!
Today I saw the Australia that I was expecting when I got here. :] Minus the animals, haha. But I hiked and explored and photographed and adventured like I was getting paid! I stayed at Annette's last night because she has a second job outside of Uni. She sells "Undercover Wear". It's bra's, panties, jammies, and normal clothes too. She said she can usually rake in about 200-300 dollars if it's a good party. Generally they last 3-5 hours, so when she left, Harry and I weren't expecting to see her before we fell asleep. Neither of us was feeling too energetic, so I made us dinner around 6pm... We cooked up some Kangaroo Sausages!!! They weren't terrible. But they are hard to describe. The taste reminded me of the smell of a farm. Fertilizer and animals and all that. I also had lentil soup... which was pretty tasty. Kangaroo is very very lean. Annette told me later on that I need to try a Roo Steak or a Roo Burger, it has more flavor and is seasoned better. So, anyway... I think I've tried everything I meant to except for Crocodile. Harry and I decided that a

Wasting time while we waited for Jamie... he was thirty minutes late! movie night sounded good. I thought it sounded good beacuse I thought he would fall asleep. Well, after the first two (his choice of Dukes of Hazzard and Dude, Where's my Car?) he STILL wasn't sleeping. So I picked the next one, "300". And about that time Annette was home. Way early. I guess the girls at the party were all really young. According to Annette, "They were all very large women and were much more interested in the food that was set up rather than the clothes. And they all said to me 'Oh, I wish I could still fit into clothes like that!'". So she was upset because she didn't even break even with the gas she needed to get out there. Bummer.
After 300 was over, we all just went to bed. I was exhausted and probably could've fell asleep at 6, haha.
The next morning I helped Annette clean up a little bit because I knew she said she wanted too, and I didn't want her to feel like she couldn't clean because I was around, so I offered to run the vaccuum for her. :] I am such a good adopted daughter, haha.
I even did all the dishes and took care of them the night before, and they weren't even mine! After the cleaning up we ran some errands and picked up some sandwhich things to take hiking. We were at the hiking trail by 11am waiting for Jamie, her "date". He's Scottish, and was so very hard to understand. His kids were born in AU though, so they had Aussie accents. Harry and those kids got along well. I think they were 13 and 15 and Harry is 11. It was nice because all the kids were occupied and I got to just wander and take photos so Annette and Jamie could chat or whatever.
I scaled a rock wall in the Quarry!!! It was so awesome. It was just a joke at first, so I could get a photo and make it look like I was rock climbing.. but then I just kept going until I was at the top. Then Jamie climbed up. Annette took some good pictures.
After the trail, we had a picnic. Then we visited a winery and each bought a bottle. I only really like red, so that's what I got. Annette picked

So many amazing views out over Perth up some for her weekend with the girls and Jamie got some for home. I guess this means that I will have some wine at home now.... drinking alone..... GREAT ;]. Just kidding.
Anyway. It was such a blast. Then we stopped off at some Brewery and tried some homemade brew. I just had a light lager because I was feeling full from lunch. But it's been so fun, as cheesy as it may sound, to try different beers everywhere I go. I never get the same thing twice. I've been keeping a list too. Even at the winery, they let you sample things, and so we all tried 2-3 different wines and shared the samples because they gave us more than we needed to just get a taste. It was weird, because all the stuff you see in the movies and on those fancy shows about the way wine actually tastes and makes your tongue feel started to make sense as I tried the different wines. I tried a blackberry wine, which was good but way too sweet. More like a dessert wine I thought. And then I tried Cherry... ICK! I'll stick to my dry red and
some reiseling every now and again.
Thursday and Friday, like I mentioned in earlier entries I helped out with some practicals and finals. It was fun because for once I wasn't taking the exam! Thursday I was in charge of keeping track of the written part. Because there were stations for the practical and entry was staggered into the exam so everything could keep rolling, I had to set the students at tables after they completed the practical and keep track of the time because they only had a certain amount of time to complete the written portion. It wasn't bad... pretty repetitive but not hard. It was kind of funny to get all the dirty looks when they turned them in. I just said "Hey, I didn't make the exam! I just collect it" haha.
Friday I actually graded the practical. THe students completed an anatomy portion where they all stripped down to their skibbies (think tighty whities and bikini's) and drew on each other and then they came over to my station STILL pretty much naked to tape. It was so funny. I've never seen so much skin in the same place in my life, haha.
Well maybe at the beach. I will say that I had some pretty interesting underwear. Anyway.. the first half of the day the average core was a 4 or 5 out of 10. Eek, right? Well, there were three taping stations and we all were getting terrible results. During the break the anatomy graders also said that they were giving out really low scored. The second half gave me a little more hope though. I gave out one 9/10 (the highest for ANYONE on the taping half for the entire day) and a handful of 7/10. But the average at the end of the day was still probably only a 5 or 6/10. So.... hopefully Mark doesn't post scored until I'm safely back in the states!!!
So... I am officially at the half-way mark of my time here. It hasn't been what I've expected, but I think I have definitely made the best of the opportunities I have had. While I'm hanging out with Annette mostly, and she's older than my own Mom, I still enjoy her company and I think she likes mine. She's used to just being with Harry and she's asked me to stay over
Tuesday again (another date for her!) and anytime I want really. I think that on the weekends or at least once a week I'll go over there... it's a nice change of pace and they aren't in bed by 8pm, haha.
Anyway, tomorrow I am going to the markets with Su as usual. Then I will probably head out to Cottesloe again and swim. I really really really love swimming. I'm going to try and head to a different part of the beach I think, where there maybe aren't so many dogs to knock sand in my bag. And not so much poo hidden in the washed up sea weed. Or, if I am completely exhausted, I might just relax or go to the Aquarium for a more low key day. But the weather is supposed to be crap for a couple weeks so the ocean is really calling my name. :]
Well, until next time...
Thinking of you back home in America's High Five
Love,
Megan
