Edit Blog Post
Not too sure what happened to this blog as it seem to have disappeared along with the pictures .. so apologies if you have hundreds of email notifying you it has been updated .. here is the final version along with the missing pictures :0)
*******************************************
So much has happened since the last blog.
After weeks of application forms and interviews I finally accepted a job offer. I am so glad I waited now (even though at times it felt like I would never find a job that I wanted - I am so grateful to Doug for being the best husband and my best friend through it all as he has been so patient and reassuring - I even have forgiven him for getting me the application form at McDonalds!!) as I have landed a great job and something that I know a lot about ... Relocation!!! I now work as a Corporate Account Manager for Crown Relocations - so basically help corporate clients for Rio Tinto relocate.
It is a really busy job and I have spent the past few weeks training to ensure that I learn all the internal systems and procedures (even visiting
clients whilst their house is being packed up!) but it is so interesting as I basically handle the whole move from organising the packers to go into the clients house, to arranging the relocation for the pets to booking the flights and hotels for them. I love it!!!
Every day is a new challenge and my new colleagues are great! It is a bit weird to see the other side of relocations but I have learnt so much about the background to the relocations and quarantine (even a session with a quarantine officer.. now I understand why they took my christmas decorations off me!!) I have made friends with the girls I work with and we have become a really good team.
I never thought the language barrier would be a problem as basically we all speak English - but as my north-west accent is so stong I have earned the nickname 'Manc' although my friends from Manchester all think I speak with a Liverpool twang as I moved to Warrington when I was 10 so have mixed with Mancs and Scousers all my life and never thought my accent was that strong!! But I accept it gracefully
and have enjoyed learning the aussie versions of words for things such as sweets (lollies?) and marker pens (texties!) and so many more that I learn as I go along! It also makes me laugh at the words they use such as 'dag', 'stoked' and 'heaps' as it just sounds like Neighbours when I was growing up!
I am just grateful I have met such nice girls at work and that they find my geography skills of Australia funny especially when I say things like "is Busselton near Bunbury .. " whilst holding a map of WA upside down = but as people back in Warrington will vouch for me that although the majority of my working career has been in the travel business - geography has never been my stong point ... especially the time I thought that Cameroon was in Scotland .. I have my excuses as to why and I will stick to them as well you all know !!! :0)
As I am now working full time Doug has stopped doing overtime and for the first time since I started going out with him at the age of 18 he isn't working on a Saturday! We get to spend so much time together now and are constantly planning where we want to visit next! It also means that we get a lot of time at the weekend with the dogs on the beach and it makes us feel that we are on holiday every Saturday and Sunday!
As we have now been here for over 5 months I am starting to miss my family and friends so much .. but we keep in touch by phone and email (long calls with my Dad and Ann & John mean the world to me and keep me going and the calls to my friends keep me up to date with life back home!). And all I can say is thank goodness to Facebook as I keep in touch with everyone in an instant!
Doug is looking for a motorbike again and I think he has actually found one he likes ... he is so fussy with what he wants but has found that bikes out here are not as easy to come by as in the UK .. as most things we have found!!!
On a bad note because of the distance we are travelling to and from work each day (3 hour round trip!) we are so tired most days but as we have to get up so early we have seen the most beautiful sunrises that are so spectacular that I have never seen anything like it in my life - some of the mornings the sky looks like heaven itself and I have been ready and willing to take pictures (always try to find the positive in life for anything I do!)
The dogs are also coping really well .. I thought they would miss me .. but they seem to be ok as long as we have daily visits to the beach and the park to keep them going!! The dogs are thriving and aboslutely love it out here which is a big relieve after all we went through with quarantine.. Aussie has now got over his eye infection as well so is back to his normal cheeky self. He loves going in the garden and always find the balls that the neighbours kids have thrown over .. he has about 10 balls now and when he finds a new one he comes back in the house with it in his mouth parading up down really pleased with himself!!
Well, now the clocks have gone back and we are now in Autumn we weren't really sure what to expect ... and up to now we have had rain which has been weird as in the 5 months we have lived here this is only the fourth day we have had rain! I took a video of it has it just seem so bizarre!! We got absolutely soaked going from the front door to the car and the rain outside was about 2 inches deep and was the first time I have worn jeans and a coat as the temperature has come down to about 22-25 degrees!!! So for the first time I have actually felt cold! Even at night it gets down to about 12-15 degrees and I am absolutely freezing .. I just can't comprehend how I used to cope when we were back in the UK and it was minus anything !!!
We are still trying to plan our holiday and think we might hire a camper van and either go up north to Monkey Mia to see the dolphins or go down south to the Margaret River ... there are so many lovely things to do that I think we will need a month off work to see everything on our list!
We are loving it out here ... and although we miss our family & friends and at times it has been really hard as we feel like we have started all over again ... we have never once regretted our decision to move out here.
Happy Days!!!
