The bloody Melbourne Cup!!

Hi guys,

Been a while and we thought it was about time we checked in. The last time we wrote we were in Queenstown NZ and now we're in St Kilda Melbourne. After the last blog we basically drove all the way back up to Auckland in 2 days. It was tough but we made it in good time. We've been in Aus since Thursday night and firstly stayed in South yarra which is a quite a nice area. We probably picked the worst weekend in the year to come here as it is the Melbourne cup festival. It's actually Melbourne Cup day today - They have 7 days of racing but today is the big one, a public holiday too the weirdo's. Imagine if we got a day off for the Grand national - that would be nice, but a weeks worth of the Grand national? Nah!

Anyhoo! We've been driving down the Great Ocean road for the last two days and it's been pretty cool as we've been taking it easy. We stayed in Apollo Bay last night which was nice, but pretty busy cos of the Melbourne cup (bugger!). Ocean views cheered us up after finding a nice YHA hostel. We drove back to Melbourne and are staying with a friend until we fly on Friday to Sydney. It's quite funny cos if we'd have come a week earlier then we'd have had accomadation sorted but because we weren't sure about extending NZ we didn't book anything. Sad but it's turned out for the best. The place is buzzing and a good vibe surrounds St Kilda today. The weather is good too, as it's been raining way too much in Melbourne since we got here. A contrast to the clear blue skies of NZ which is very odd.

Anyway we;ve not been up to much else since we last wrote, hence why we haven't wrote anything. Also we haven't really had time, or the internet places are way too expensive! Usually the latter.
