Msalato Kindergarten
THANK YOU PAUL, MATT & C SMART Msalato Porridge Fee- As mentioned in our Blog page of July 3rd 2013 we, Holy Trinity congregation and friends and colleagues in the IT industry raised the necessary US$1,600.00 to fund the next 12 months 'Porridge Fee' at Msalato kindergarten in Dodoma, Tanzania. This fee provided 45 children with a hot meal of porridge every day while attending kindergarten. Also as mentioned in subsequent Blogs, on Jess's retirement from C Smart, Paul Lemaire C Smart MD & Matt Holani C Smart Executive Director, generously offered to fund the 'Porridge Fee' through C Smart in subsequent years. We just wanted to let everyone know that the donation for the 'Porridge Fee' 2014/2015 year has been received by Holy Trinity from C Smart and Holy Trinity will arrange payment to Msalato in Tanzania.
Thank you so much to Paul & Matt, your generosity is appreciated by all involved at Msalato especially the 45 children and everyone at Holy Trinity. On
Saturday 3rd May the weather forecast was for a windy and wet day however we were presented with a sunny and warm morning. We decided to take a walk around the Mallacoota surrounds. First we headed off towards St Peters church
where we spotted four Kangaroos grazing in the paddock next door!!!! Then it was off through the bush towards Bastion Point which gave great views across the Tasman Sea towards Gabo Island. Saturday night was as forecast very very wet and oh so windy and this weather continued all night. On Sunday morning the rain had stopped but the strong winds continued.
On
Sunday 4th May we attended the 9.00am service at St Peters and met the Revd. Roger Jackman and the retired Revd. John Grace who is helping Roger. As the church is a cooperating church between Anglican & Uniting the services alternate and this week was the Uniting Church Holy Communion service. The Catholic Church also uses St Peters for a 5.00pm service every Sunday. The congregation for the 9.00am service was 13 plus Roger & John, it was a good service followed by morning tea.
After the 9.00am service Roger and John were heading to St Johns in Cann River some 75 klms away so we asked if we could tag along. St Johns is a small wooden church as you would have seen from the last Blog and the congregation for this service was
two, Val & Ian, plus us and Evelyn was asked to read the second reading 1 Peter 1:13-25. A nice little Holy Communion service followed by, you guessed it, morning tea. One thing about Christians, they know how to eat!!!!!!
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20
It was a great day and a great way to start our time in Mallacoota and it was a great introduction to what BCA is about, reaching out to people even if the congregations are small, providing encouragement to those who minister and those who attend.
We are currently staying at the Mallacoota caravan park but should be moving the caravan to the Manse late next week.
On
Tuesday 6th May while sitting outside the caravan enjoying the peace & quiet a couple passing by on an afternoon stroll, stopped and commented on the caravan sign "God is Love' they were a retired couple, Les & Trisha, from Blackburn Church of Christ and it was great to talk to them about their experiences travelling around Australia and there contact with BCA. They were also interested in what we were
doing. So our signs have attracted people because as one camper remarked the other day on passing by "I bet it's not this cold in Hastings" as the winds blew up.
Wednesday 7th May saw us head off on one of the many bush walks that are around the Mallacoota inlet. We headed off on the 'Shady Gully Walk' which is part of the 'Mallacoota Track'. This is a short forest walk, through Mountain Grey Gums, Angophora & Stringybark’s. A great walk and a chance to enjoy the bush and bird life.
On
Thursday 8th May we attended a talk at St Peters presented by CWCI - Christian Women’s Communication Institute. CWCI run Safaris which aim to make contact with women in isolated areas and bring encouragement to Christians, including men. This talk featured Vicki Mustafa who was raised in Islamic beliefs but after suffering a life with drug, alcohol and suicide attempts found Christianity and gave her life to Christ. Vicki spent nearly 20 years as a missionary with MECO (Middle East Christian Outreach). It was an amazing story and one we were privileged to here.
