The morning we left Melbourne we set off in search of a train station, again Craig had me wandering around with my pack on not knowing which direction was the right one. We hopped on a train to the outskirts of Melbourne to pick up our Britz camper. We called her Britzy Murphy. We headed off in Murphy and nearly went straight back into the centre of Melbourne but we soon figured we were going in the wrong direction and corrected our course. Again im a bad navigator but craig didnt notice either. This journey was all about the Great Ocean Road.
We had been waiting in Melbourne for a relocation to come up for Adelaide and one finally had. First we drove in the rain to Bells beach,
this is where they filmed the end scene in point break where Keanu uncuffs Swayze and he surfs into the wild sea and dies. Good film. Well in the film it was really wild and stormy and we caught it in exactly the same weather. Further along the road we got stopped at some road works and Craig befriended the worker there. He was sent down the line to tell poeple
of the problem and he liked us the most and came to talk to us for a while. He even asked if we were a couple so i suspected he fancied abit of Craig, lol!!!
We stopped the night a little further along the road ready for the scenic drive the next day.
We got up early and set out to experience the great ocean road. We were in and out of the Van all day. The weather was good and the views even better. This was my second trip to The Great Ocean Road but Craigs first. I saw all the things as last time plus more. We saw the Twelve Apostles which is probably the most famous, London Bridge, Gibson Steps, Loch Ard Gorge and the grotto to name a few. These sights are all natural and made from the erosion of rock along the coast. The road literally takes you along the ocean and through the little seaside towns. As it was winter it was not busy but if you go in summer its packed. This trip had to be quick as the rental company only allowed us three days to get to Adelaide, but that
was enough for what we wanted to see. When we reached Adelaide we thought we had gone passed the 3pm drop off time and there for would have to pay $100 fine but we changed time zones and gained an hour, how jammy are we. After dropping the van off and getting our petrol money back we jumped on a bus to the city centre of Adelaide. We did not have change for the bus so he gave us an old pensioners fare. Again we did not have clear directions on how to get to Ian and Carols house where we were supposed to be staying but we set off in that direction anyway. We jumped on a tram not bothering buying a ticket and chancing our luck as we didnt have any change. The tram stopped unexpectedly and we had to change trams, the 2nd tram actually had an insepector on and we nearly pooped. First one in OZ and its the only time we didnt buy a ticket. Luckily the tickets we bought on the bus allowed us to travel on any form of transport for up to 2 hours, so we were sweet.
In Adelaide
we got to stay in a proper home, which is alot better than a hostel. The bed was soo comfy and they had a little schnozer named Jasper. Ian, Carol and Amy were so nice and invited us into their home without hesitation. If you didnt know Carol is an old friend of my Aunty Audrey and from the north east. I had met her once when i was younger but could not remember. That night they allowed us to settle in and bought us fish and chips. We chatted for a while and then went to bed.
The next day the family with Kim and Craig in tow went to a german town named Handorf. We had a walk down the street and stopped
at a little cafe for cake and coffee. They then took us to Glenelg beach. It was a little windy but in summer would be lovely. On our walk myself and Craig spotted a $10 note in the hedge. how sweet was that. The rain started to come down so we headed home to watch a dvd. We tried skyping Audrey but her sound was not working so we headed out for tea to
an italian restaurant.
The next day we woke up in our comfy bed and went out on Ians Moped. We put our helmets on and headed into the city for a look around. We walked the street and popped into a few shops, manly outdoorsy ones and then headed back to Carol and Ians. Carol had made us a lovely Sunday dinner which we really enjoyed. That night we got to skype home and we had a decent conversation with our famnilies. This was something we had been missing since we were back travelling.
The next day we were off again. So we left Ian, Carol and Amy a liitle thank you pressie and we headed off to pick up another relocation camper back to Sydney. It took us 2 days to reach Serenity park where we used to work and here we rearranged our bags including our summer shorts n vests ready for 2 weeks in fiji. We slept in the camper that night and tried to get gus to sleep with us but he was freaked out by it all and went to sleep with scamp outside. We dropped the van off and went to see
Ram in his Apple shop. He had wanted us to stay with him so we said yes. We picked the keys up and headed to Cronulla where he lived. AGAIN, Craig had me wandering around lost
in Cronulla. Ram had given Craig directions but we did not follow them. After an hour of wandering i rang Ram and found out the real directions. His flat was little and he gave up his room for us. It was really nice and he had decorated it in buddha colours. When he got in from work we chatted and caught up until the early hours. The next day Ram took a sicky and treated us to breakfast on the beachfront. He showed us around the area and helped us get things sorted for fiji. That night we met his girlfreind Teagan and we all went out for Thai food. It ws a nice restaurant but the only bad thing was the banging from the road works outside. We talked about Everest and started to play 20 questions like back on the trek. It was a really good night. We had a brilliant nights sleep in Rams bed, bless him and they drove us
to the airport the next day.
It was great catching up with old friends and we were looking forward to doing the same in New Zealand but first a well deserved relaxing beach getaway.
