Camp dinner...
...this is just before we found out the camp had all those crazy facilities we mentioned! The final leg of our time in Oz saw us visiting Kangaroo Island, Adeliade, the Great Ocean road and Melbourne...what a way to wrap it up!
On KI we stayed on a farm and did a guided tour of the island, which consisted of seeing lots if wildlife (kangaroos, wallsbys, two different types of seals, echindas, and FINALLY a snake!! Oh and the cutest penguins ever! ). We also did sand surfing on huge sandunes and were the only pair who managed to stay on the 'sandboard' the whole way down! Woo, go team!
Back on the mainland, and it was time to pick up our Spaceship, which was to be our home for the next few days! We loved camping, but in true Dave and Sarah style ended up staying in 4* campsites! Bet u didn't even know they existed! So there we were living the rustic life, cooking our food on gas burners outside our camper and people kept walking past saying good on you two, that's the way to do it' and we thought nothing of it...until Dave went into the camp kitchen and we realized there were kettles, microwaves, toasters, and cookers!! No wonder everyone
was commenting on our cooking methods, they must have thought we were nuts!! So we spent five nights in the camper, basically just moving from beach to beach enjoying the sunshine and at night we'd watch our DVDs in our surround sound car ! But at the same time as we were doing all this traveling around, Australia was suffering from it's largest natural disaster in history! Over two hundred people were killed on massive bush fires, which spread throughout Victoria ( which is where we were ) at over 200 Km an Hour! In other words we wouldn't have even been able to out run them in the car! You couldn't escape the devestation, it was all people spoke about and all the news covered for days. But obviously we were never close to it, and we travelled up to Melbourne unharmed!
The main reason for our visit to Melbourne was to get our 'commupence' from Nestor and Sinead as they repaid the favour and put us up for a few nights! The morning we set off we gave the lads a quick call to let them know we were on our way, but unfortunately Nestor was on his
was to work...boo!! Although once we explained we were only an hour away he decided to ditch work and hang out with us...HURRAY! Let the drinks commence! Our first night the guys brought us to a (most ridiculasly hard) table quiz in an Irish pub, where the Guinness is just like home! Great night, we absolutly sucked at the quiz though! Sinead and the two of us were pretty broke though, so we decided to leave early and go back to the house and have more drinks there, so we left the pub to get the train back....BAD IDEA! Sinead didn't have a clue where we were going and managed to get us on the wrong train! So as we were walking in the right direction we walked past a fountain and in true Dave style he dared Sinead to get into the fountain, and if she did he'd buy us all a pint as a reward! Obviously true to form Sinead whipped off her shoes and jumped in...she was not going to pass up a free drink! Happy days, off to the pub again for us! The next four days were pretty much spent drunk or hungover, but we
Last drinks in Oz
We'll miss you Carlton! still managed to have a great time catching up with them and meeting up with other friends from home (for drinks of course!!)
We left St. Kilda and the lovely Sinead, Nestor, Darina, Gill and Mika behind on Saturday and headed to the city for our last night. Sarah had booked us both into a hotel as part of Daves birthday present and what a hotel it was! It was five star and über luxerious, but to make things even better we weren't even in a normal room, it was a one bedroom split level suite! We nearly died, two plasma tvs, the biggest, comfiest bed ever, a huge living area, a kitchen and an amazing bathroom! We were in shocked, but thrilled, and we had a brilliant relaxing night! Seriously people, check out wotif.com, the deals on there are unbelievable!!
The next morning and it's time to pack up our stuff and leave for the airport, it's bye bye Oz, hello New Zealand!!
PS- our Oz mobiles don't work anymore, so just email/facebook from now on!
