It seems hard to believe where the time goes. Nearly six months in Australia have gone :s
Recently, besides getting our plans together for the Asia legg of our trip we have been trying to make the most of what little time we have left here.
While we were away on our trip down the Great Ocean Road Jazz the farm dog had her four pups. All are well and I am relieved to say none have found themselves in the water trough….. yet : S
A couple of weekends back Matt invited me along to watch a game of Footy at the Telstra Dome. Richmond played Geelong infront of 36,000 people, not bad for a Sunday afternoon!! The game was pretty one sided, but you can read the comments on the picture to find out more.
We had another night over at Mark & Kellie’s. Mark and I had a night infront of the TV while the girls went out to watch Annie at the local theatre where Kellie’s sis Kate was in the cast. The next day we went to have a look at Chateaux Phillips!! Happy to report it’s massive and it’s coming along
nicely and will be ready for Christmas.
We also took a drive up to Mt. Baw Baw. We didn't really get to see what we were hoping when we got to the top as there was a pretty thick mist. To make matters worse nothing was open not even a coffee shop. The only people about were work men getting things ready for the up and coming ski season. We did see quite a lot of wildlife though. On the way up a lyrebird and a black Kangaroo ran out across the front of us. We also saw some pretty rare black and fluorescent yellow parrots, some rainbow and green lorikeets as well as a big dead wombat!
On the way back home from Mt Baw Baw we stopped off at the Noojee forest. In order to get to the forest we drove along a beautiful valley, which wound its way in between two forests for a good few Ks. Farms and grazing cattle were the only sights along a small stream which ran the length of the valley. At the far end, the road opened up into a car park and from there we took the
woodland walk to the nearby Amphitheatre Falls and Toorongo Falls.
We had a day in the city and did a circuit of the tourist attractions. Starting and finishing at the Rialto tower. Some fantastic views up there and we got a couple of great sunset pictures. After that Jo had her hair cut by Dazza, a mate from when I worked in the city. He did an excellent job and we had a good catch up over a few glasses of wine. Cheers mate; thanks again, look forward to seeing you over in the UK. Then just to cap off a good day we missed our 9.30 train back and had to wait to catch the 11.30 one, only for the car to breakdown when we were driving back to the farm!! Lucky we caught Kerrie on the phone and Dave came out to rescue
us and towed us back to the farm by the Ute! Couldn't believe it, the old coona (which is the name of our beat up old Nissan car) only had to last one more trip to Warragul to drop it off before we fly out!! Turned out to be a dead battery and after
a recharge started and got us to where we needed to go.
We had our farewell meal at Kim’s Kitchen a Chinese restaurant a couple of nights ago, which Kellie and Mark (who lent us the car) organised with Dave and Kerrie. There was a whisper going round that there was going to be a bit of karaoke, but luckily enough it wasn’t to be and everyone was saved!!
Our Asia plans have come on a bit. We’re going to be heading straight off up to Northern Thailand from Bangkok doing a couple of stops along the way to Chiang Mai. We're going to an Elephant Hospital to see how they look after injured ones and rehabilitate them....its on Jo's request... I'm just hoping we get to ride one at some point!! Then from Chiang Mai we fly to Laos and spend 3 wks traveling down the country before flying into Siem Reap in Cambodia to see Ankor Wat, a really old temple site a bit like the lost
city. I managed to find on the Laos airline website an offer on a flight pass which gave up to 60% off a combo of two or three flights
Whats the score Matt!!
Matt's team took a whoopping. So thanks for inviting me mate it was a blinder, or was that your teams players??!! so for a bargain $230 we fly three big legs and miss all the awkward boarder crossing bits and long bus and boat rides. We should get back to Bangkok a couple of wks into July then we'll see how much money's left and depending on that spend the rest of our time in southern Thailand on a beach before heading through Malaysia to Singapore. All things going well we should be flying
home early August.
We’ve been saying our goodbyes for the past couple of days, but just again to everyone that has helped us, thank you. We have been very lucky to have had such an easy ride while we’ve been here. It has been down to the generosity of people like the Williams’ All 93 of them!! (it seems that many when their all together!) To Kellie & Mark for lending us the Coona and for having us over to dinner and taking us out on numerous occasions, to Macka, he made a real effort when things weren’t really going his way, so thank you. To Duffy and Frank for making the effort to pop over and say goodbye to us, it was good to meet
you both and I'm sure we'll share a beer in the future. That also, goes to Dazza and Colin all the best and keep in touch.
Goodbye Melbourne we'll miss you....lots xxxx
