My final week in Sydney wasn't what I expected it to be but it was memorable nonetheless. The weather didn't cooperate for the majority of the rain and sadly the weather forecasters were pretty accurate - saw a lot of rain. Monday G and I went to our hair appointment as planned but long story short, there was no 2 for $80 deal and since we were there and looking forward to our new looks we said oh well and just forked out double what we were expecting to pay. I love my new colour!!! 😊 Unfortunately it will be pretty much all washed out by the time that I'm back home as it's only semi permanent. After our appointments (which included wine and chocolate dipped strawberries might I add) we met up with Stef in the city for a pre-wine party drink out. Stef's apartment was absolutely beautiful!!! I was very impressed at how nice, large, and close to the CBD (city center) it was for the rent amount - good job Stefie!! Unfortunately the boys couldnt' make it so it was just the 3 of us. We had a lovely night sipping our Hunter Valley wines, enjoying some good
eats, and watching Sex and the City... a real ladies nite!! 😊
On Tuesday it was and I quote "the day that stops the nation" - the Melbourne Cup (biggest horse race in Australia). G wasn't working that day thankfully so her and I met up in the city to watch the televised races at a bar. We met up around 1pm and the drinking commenced shortly thereafter. The pubs were packed with everyone making bets on the horses and such. Did I mention that everyone dresses up? Women wear fancy hats and old fashioned dresses, it's quite a posh day... LOVE it! I did a little bet where you simply drew a horse out of a hat and I was all excited b/c I had apparently I had selected the favourite but then he didn't win anyways so tough luck. After way too much wine I met up with Lisa in Wooloomooloo (place with all the o's once again, lol). This day was memorable to say the very least.......
Wednesday G and I headed to the Blue Mountains. I took the train towards G's place and she picked me up from the station and off we went.
G is SO wonderful to have spent so much time showing me around and taking me places... god love her! Not unlike the rest of the week it was raining on and off all day long. The Blue Mountains are known to either be really cold or really warm in comparison to in Sydney. It was really cold. Despite all the heavy fog when we first arrived, luckily the fog lifted and I was able to see the famous rock structures titled "the three sisters" which are pictured on basically anything talking to the Blue Mountains. We did a whole bunch of stuff despite the unplesant weather including some hiking, a cable car ride over the Blue Mountains, a steep train ride down into a valley, and so on.... it was another great road trip! That nite I had another lovely dinner with Lisa's family... they're such a sweet family.
Thursday was my last day in Sydney... boy was I sad. I ended up sleeping in quite late because I could hear the rain pouring down outside so it didn't seem all that tempting to get out and enjoy the day early on. I ended up getting lucky in that after I got ready and ate brekky, the sun started to peek out. I was estatic because I had been planning to do the other half of the famous coastal trek that I had yet to do (Clovelly to Coogee Beach). I got into my exercise gear, put on my ipod and off I went. The scenery is so stunning on that walk, I can't believe Lisa can do that walk whenever she'd like, soooo unfair. I did the Clovelly to Coogee Beach walk and back and then figured I may as well do the Clovelly to Bondi Beach walk (that I'd already done earlier in the week) again just because it was so nice outside and the fresh air was doing me good. I ended up walking/jogging for 4 hours, it was truly an amazing afternoon all along the sea. That evening I met up with Lisa, G, and Stef in the city for my farewell dinner. Lisa and I even ended up meeting up with my friends Lisa and Rebecca from the East coast for coffee prior to dinner which was super nice. We went down to the harbour to meet up with the others for dinner - and by harbour, I mean to the fabulous Darling Harbour!!! It's absolutely breath taking.... It was hard saying goodbye to G and Stef that night and later to Lisa when she left me at the train station... these girls are just so wonderful and welcoming and made my oz trip so memorable and special....
The next morning, Friday am, I had an 8:55am flight to Hobart, Tasmania. I'm not going to lie, from when I left Lisa and rode on that metro to the airport I couldn't help but tear up a bit... and on the flight to Tassie as well. I was just really moved re: my whole Sydney experience and was truly very sad to be leaving that city and all my friends. I seriously think I will be returning to Sydney within the very near future to try to work. Why not right?!?
I'm now in Tasmania and have finished 3 of the 4 days of my "Tassie Highlights" tour with the company cleverly called Under Down Under. Upon arrival into Hobart I spent the afternoon sightseeing the city which happens to be the capital of Tasmania but which still feels very small. I went to a museum for a free guided tour, wandered the streets, and saw what Hobart had to offer. My tour started the next morning at 7:30am. I'll write all about my tour in my next journal entry. I have a flight to Melbourne in the am of Nov 14th so next time I write, it will be from there.
Hope all is well back home...
