Well.....what can I say? Where does time go? A lot has happened this year. Verity is 1 in only a month and George is growing into a little boy with an Aussie accent( It does make us chuckle, getting him to say 'G'day mate' and 'Alright Cobber' and 'No worries mate'.........poor boy!...could be deemed a form of abuse/racism maybe!?)
We have just applied for Citizenship so that we can all have an Aussie passport, not just Verity who is the only official Aussie in the house at present (well Brit/Aussie.......we remain British too!!!) It will be good to be able to vote in the next election as it was a bit frustrating seeing what was happening this time but not being able to vote at all.
I went back to work at the beginning of this term. It has been an excellent time. I am now visiting newly diagnosed deaf babies in their homes........a far cry from working with deaf teenagers in schools. It is a little more flexible but it's weird not having the school regime of Lunch/Break etc...... A couple of the babies have additional needs. One was born at 24 weeks, incredibly. He is a gorgeous little
boy but has huge additional problems as a consequence of such an early birth. His adjusted age is actually the same as Verity. He should have been born about the same time but was actually born 4 months earlier. It makes you appreciate your own children and they have both had lots of extra cuddles from me. I also have to work with lots of other professionals (Early Intervention specialists/Audiologists/Social Workers/Occupationall Therapists......) in this role which is a great experience.
Mum came over at Easter as Ivor went to Thailand with school. We had a ball and for the first week (when Ivor was still around) we spent a couple of nights in Hobart, in a Hotel....child free. We did lots of shopping, eating and drinking!! It was sad to see mum leave as she really got to know the children but I am going over in Jan to the UK with Verity for mum's 70th birthday which will be great.
Just recently somebody bought the block just up the hill from us at the back of the house. We were a little worried as a LOT of trees were cleared......however, we needn't have worried as I think the house
will be far enough up that it won't ruin our privacy plus we get a lot more sun!! Small place Hobart. I had had a particularly difficult day. I was home from work with a sick George (I had supposed to be going on a PD up in Launceston with 2 colleagues), about to go to GPs, when he fell and smashed his head on the table......blood everywhere!! I took him straight to casualty where they patched hime up. Brought him home and put him to bed. A bloke who was clearing the trees next door came to ask us to get out the house for an hour, just in case we were flattened by a falling tree. I explained my morning and asked if we could have half an hour as a very tired, poorly George had just gone to bed. he said 'no worries' and we had a bit of a chat. Turns out he was the husband of the colleague with whom I was supposed to be going to Launceston that day!!!
A couple of weekends ago we were invited to a 30th cocktail party. We got overnight babysitters and very dressed up. We had a ball
and got very chatty with Andrew Wilkie.......candidate for Denison MP in the elections. He's a great bloke and also has two small children. We laughed that he was wasting his time with us as we were not allowed to vote, being none citizens. His wife is also lovely and is a keen photographer so swapped stories with Ivor. Anyway, here we are a few weeks on and he is the centre of National attention, on the borderline of winning his seat and maybe helping to decide what will happen to the Nation's hung Parliament.
Last weekend we had the opportunity of free accommodation in Maydena, near Mout Field. It's always hard work carting the amount of stuff you need with 2 children but we did it! The weather was awful but we managed to do a small walk......and drove up into the snow. Snow at ground level here is incredibly rare. They don't even grit the roads! Sadly George was asleep but we enjoyed it.
Nearly the September hols and we are going to enjoy going nowhere and hopefully getting some jobs done around the house.
We continue to miss the family but so far have managed to see some
members at least, fairly regularly!!!
