So here are my pics from my six-night break in Tasmania - better known down under as ´Tassie´! Based in Hobart, I sailed to Tasman Island, visited the old penitentiary and convict settlement buildings of infamous Port Arthur (chilling and v spooky - especially the asylum!) and was uber-impressed by Hobart´s surprisingly funky modern art galleries and museums. There´s actually a steel cable from the mainland to the tip of the stack which was once traversed by a lunatic tight-rope artist. Apparently he slipped, falling on the rope right between the legs!! He managed though to steady himself, get back up and complete the crossing. So our tour guide told us!

There was a terrible disaster involving the bridge in 1975. A carrier sailing down the river, having misjudged the bridge´s height, took out three sections of the bridge which fell sinking the ship. Before the traffic could be stopped, a number of cars drove over the edge. Twelve died in this awful tragedy.
