Rental car agents looked at us like we were going to a distant planet when we told them that we wanted to go to Coober Pedy. Many Australians never venture into the Outback. This arcade is the only open-air arcade in Perth. It was built in 1937 and is a copy of portions of Buckingham Palace.

Perth has an incredible number of statues depicting Australian wildlife, people, and literary characters. These are the Gum Nut Babies, Snugglepot and Cuddlepot. They are from the May Gibbs fairy tale series.

First off...Hi Dorothy! Pam, I love your pics and colorful commentary, as always...Freemantle looks very interesting..and as for the folks in the opal mining town..I think they have been too long in the hot sun! LOL No, really, the pics of the hotel and the house in the "mines" were really cool, although my claustrophobia would defintely be on high alert! How do you like the new camera? I just bought a new one too..only 4x zoom, but then I dont have the exotic pics to take like you! grin Love to both

The kids got your package yesterday and are enjoying their goodies! Thanks so much for thinking of us. The book and your site are a wonderful way to teach them about Australia. Declan now wants to go to Coober Pedy to stay in the underground motel. Maybe someday... Love to both of you and happy trails!
