This next blog will be kind of different from the usual ones. The simple reason for this is that we did very little, in the next few places, other than lie in the sun and do nothing. So I will tell you a little about each of the places and any highlights that may have happend. Firstly,
Rainbow Beach. It gets its name because of the different coloured sand amongst the cliffs at the beach. However we did not see this because it rained for the majority of our stay. We did get fifthteen minutes on the beach and in that short space of time Claire managed to break Hayley's 'Stick Ball' game! We stayed here for two nights and that was long enough. It was a small place and if the weather had been better I would probably have enjoyed it more. Before we left on our Greyhound we did go to see a wild dolphin! Kind of cool but not sure I would do it again.
After a few hours travel we arrived at our next stop,
Noosa. Noosa is a lovely town with a gorgeous beach. Luckily the bad weather left us here and we spent several
days lounging around in the sun. We also went to
Australia Zoo from here too. The zoo hadn't changed much from the last time I was here. It's still an incredible place to visit. As well as the famous crocodile show, I saw a short tiger display. These huge tigers were jumping all over their keepers without even scratching them a little! They were like giant house cats! It was wonderful to see them jumping around and they even performed tricks for us. After leaving the zoo we spent our last night in Noosa and the following morning headed for
Brisbane.
We stayed in Brisbane for a whole week! Now last time I was here I didn't like it much but I told myself that if England could give Emile Heskey a second chance, then I had to at least give Brisbane another chance to impress me. The first few days we did very little apart from laze around the man made beach under the sun, using up all the energy we had going to and from the shop for ice cold drinks. 😊 After a while we were bored though and decided to do what any good Brit
would do...check out the XXXX Brewery Tour! After the very informative tour we were given four courtesy beers to drink. Now that would have been it, except the bar lady was rather rude to us and suggested that we should leave because the next tour would be through soon. Carl, Kayleigh and Claire took the most offense to this and decided that we were staying put! Our one hour tour started at 1pm and we left at 6pm...when the brewery was closing. Needless to say, I think we made our point.
Three other things stood out for me in Brisbane.
1 - we had a group photo with Santa!
2 - I met up with Marc Pinkney, a friend from home, for the afternoon. And
3 - Valley Verandas...our hostel. Despite the owners being very nice people, the place was a joke! The 'long-term resisdents' staying there were complete nut jobs, the bathrooms were dirty and the kitchen was a bit sick! When Carl asked the owner, Nancy, if they had a swimming pool, she directed him to a pond. Even though it was awful, Valley Verandas, has gone down in legend within our trip and will always be
remembered. Overall I like Brisbane more than before but I'm not too sure that big cities are for me!
Next we headed for
Surfers Paradise! We spent six nights here and I can see why it got it's name. A giant long beach with huge waves, scorching sun and enough bars to rival many of the top European resorts. Like the last few places we had stopped at, relaxing was our main priority. So most days were spent sunbathing and walking to town to look around the shops. On Kayleigh's birthday though it actually rained! She wasn't to pleased about that but we splashed out and went for a meal before meeting up with everyone else, only to find out that girls got free drinks all night! I think that made up for the rain. Another day when we were at the beach, a very scary thing happend...Claire was stung by a
Jellyfish!!! She was very brave and, luckily, despite the terrible pain it was not deadly. After that nobody went back into the water. On the day before we left Kayleigh and I went to Movie World. It was a great day out. We saw a stunt car
show, Shrek 4D, a Batman show, a cowboy scene and to top it all, we went on some great rollercosters! Surfers Paradise was amazing and if I had more money I would have loved to of stayed longer.
The final part of this blog is about a little town called
Coolangatta. My personal highlight was having a Pizza Hut buffet one night! That's how exciting it was there. We only stopped because we needed to kill three days before arriving in Byron Bay for our Xmas stop! Coolangatta may have had more to offer...if it hadn't rained all three days! We were all very worried that we wouldn't get our Xmas in the sun like we had hoped! Especially as it was still raining as we left for Byron Bay!
