Massive support for SC&B. Winding road to Port Douglass. Hang gliding at scenic lookout. I was mobbed for stickers. Many women and older men keen. Several waxed almost poetic, one rapturous. To engender such articulated emotion an amazing feeling to see. Major scene in Douglass. Good spruik sidewalk pub holiday mood. Beer and saw some AFL. Another bloke gave number to call, he wants a big flag.
Mon. 10. What can I say stickers sprouting around the country. Many from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Tassie, taking them home. Newspaper article Thursday!?--!-? Walked four Mile Beach. Wed. 12. Clouds hanging on Daintree ranges. Thought it might clear. Went and walked Mossman Gorge section. Steady rain - rainforrest! Humongous strangler figs. Path ran along one root (25cm) for forty meters. Green and wet fringed by the orange of my translucent 'made in china' raincoat hood. Much watching of feet over root strewn path. Stood in cool clear water of Kurumba Creek. Ground bird red head, yellow necklace, black body. Back in Port Douglass just overcast. A sudden splash of red bougainvillea. Full moon tide (2.5m) ebbing. Search for hot shower finally fruitful.
Thur. 13. Early morning 'Saw you on tv last night' meant my Cairns encounter had gone to air. 'Port Douglass Mossman Gazette' article appeared. Double Hit!!! More overcast, occasional rain.
