We booked a bus up to Port Douglas to drop us of at midday on Thursday and pick us up at 5pm the next day. We were staying at a youth hostel called the 'Parrotfish' which was in between the main street and the beach. i went there with the family so knew my way round a bit (although we couldn't find the beach for about half an hour at first- even worse considering it is called 4 mile beach!). We couldn't check into out room when we got there so we went straight down to the beach. It is 4 miles long as the name suggests but you can only swim in the netted 50 metre square area. We spent the day down there and even jogged down 4 mile beach (not all the way)... it was amazingly hot running and got knackered very quickly... felt good after though being able to cool down in the sea... even though the sea was 30 degrees anyway.
While on the beach there was loads of coconut palm trees so we played survivor and tryed to knock some of the coconuts off the trees with ones that had already fallen... it flopped big

Tim was a bit worse for wear after the night at the bar in the Parrotfish
time and so we eventually gave up.
When we eventually got checked into the hostel it was around 6pm... just in time for happy hour and 2 pound jugs of beer, free pool all night and very cheap food. We got a multinational game of killer pool going involving French, Aussies, Canadians, English, Irish and a dutch girl who had the most ridiculous accent ever (sounded exactly like Goldmember off Austin Powers!). After muchos lagers we decided to go for a 2am swim. It was probably one of the best things yet because there was a tropical rain storm and it was chucking it down but still really warm. There were toads croaking everywhere and by about 3am we had the wooden sun loungers in the pool floating around on them... top notch.
A bit worse for wear the next day we checked out at 10am, but a massive full english sorted us right out and we spent the day by the pool talking to two Canadian girls who worked there and an English. We got back at about 7pm and saw a field full of wallabies on the way. We watched Casino Royale at night with our Norweigian mate

The sun loungers on the right are still soaking wet from their little visit to the pool the night before
from the hostel then hit the sack.
Quality time in Port Douglas, and got a bit burnt again under the clouds.
