Passing through Gin Gin we soon arrive in Childers and make a stop at the backpackers memorial in the visitors centre (a fire killed a number of backpackers at the hostel) Its very moving and, having stayed in a number of hostels on our travels we can totally understand how easy a fire could take hold.
Continuing on our journey we drive into Noosa and find a place that has more roundabouts than Milton Keynes! Is this for real? Apparently there are over 100 of them in this small town. Parking up we head to find out if any free camping is around but once again are told there is nothing. This is a big difference that we are finding on the east coast that with so many beach towns there is a big push to drive campers into caravan parks. Not happy at all!! We book into Noosa river caravan park, taking the very last spot and park up. The site is gorgeous as it overlooks the lake and the open air campers kitchen is based right overlooking the lakeside. We cook dinner and spend the evening with many other campers chatting over hot chocolate...yes its turned very very cold

Fabulous open air kitchen
and we even fill our hot water bottle tonight (as do a few other campers!!!)

Noosa is a lovely little beach town but at the same time has very upmarket tourists. Apparently lots of wealthy people have holiday homes here or come here to holiday. That could explain a lot of the shops in the town on Hastings Street...designer names galore. We have a wander around the shops (window shopping of course) and then head out to the beach. The next day we spend time in Noosa National Park at Noosa Head where we have gorgeous views of the river and sea from the Laguna lookout point. We also wander over to Noosa Woods from where we can get to Sandy Cove beach. No trip to Noosa is complete though without a visit to the nougat factory. You can watch it being made but also have a chance to taste free samples mmm!!

After a few days we hit the road again and head for Brisbane, stopping just outside the night before at another BP truck stop at Caboolture. Once again we can use lovely facilities (hot showers) and spend time in the TV lounge before heading back to our camper with the hot water bottle - now who says romance is dead!!
