Edit Blog Post
I know, I know. I've been falling behind on updating this blog and I apologize.
I'm currently in Sydney living and going to school, but first I'll update you on my last two stops of my trip and then I'll tell you about what I'm up to now.
Anyways, Noosa was an interesting stop. The first thing I saw as I walked off of the greyhound was a wild turkey walking around the main bus stop in the heart of Noosa. I knew from there this was going to be a weird stop. Also, hard to say why, but I didn't take a lot of pictures this stop except for my trip to the zoo, but they more than make up for it.
I got to my hostel called Dolphins. This was the most interesting hostel I've stayed in. All the rooms are little flats with two bedrooms. The bedrooms have a few bunk beds in them and the flat has it's own bathroom, kitchen and lounge area with our own private couches and TV. This was pretty cool considering most hostels you have to share TV rooms and kitchens with 100 other people. I was only there for
one night though (at first).
The next day I left to go on a canoe trip into the Noosa Everglades. I was really excited about the trip on my way because I hadn't been on a canoe trip in a long time. I was excited for nothing though. The trip kinda sucked. No fires allowed. It was cold. There was no real tripping. If it wasn't for a couple of hilarious Irish guys on my trip the whole thing would have been a whole washout.
The trip was three days and two nights, even though we stayed at the same camp spot both nights. The entire river looked the exact same the whole time we were paddling, making for a boring scenic view. We set up camp just before the sun went down and made dinner and drank all night.
The next day we had a 3km paddle to a spot we were supposed to go for a hike. Again, the river looked the same the entire way. Boring. Once we started the hike, it was 6km of a super windy path that goes to the top of a giant hill. And what's at the top of
wild turkey
real thing, not the drink this hill??? Sand. That's it, sand.
To be honest, it was kind of cool. It was kind of like a mini desert in the middle of a giant forest. It was cool to see, but a bitch to get up to it. We checked out the sand for like half an hour and then walked back down and paddled back to camp for another night of drinking.
Finally, I got back to my nice hostel in Noosa. The first thing I did (after I showered of course) was book myself a spot on the bus to The Australian Zoo (the crocodile hunter's zoo) for the next morning. I was all prepared to go by myself, but when these English girls in my room heard I was going, they decided to come too. Spend the day with three ladies AND not have to go to the zoo myself like a loser?? Yes please.
The zoo was amazing!!!! Unless you've been to this zoo, you've never been to a zoo like it. People who work at the park interact with animals all day long and even take some on walks around the park for people to touch and play
turkey in a tree
I thought turkeys couldn't fly... with, but the best part is that they let people into some areas to really interact with the animals (not the crocodiles though). I got to pet a koala, hold a Burmese python and feed kangaroos. It was amazing. There's also a show that they put on twice a day with a few animals from around the park, but the main star is the crocs. They bring one out and feed it so you can see it eat. They even egg it on a bit so you can see it in hunting mode. One of the guys actually let a croc get a little too close to him and winds up saying in his mic (in front of all the kids), "Shit!!... I mean, crikey!" Also, because it was school holidays for kids here, they had the whole Erwin family hosting the show that day.
Also, the whole place is crazy with Steve Erwin memorabilia. They really kind of milk him and his death a bit. Even worse is how they're now marketing the little girl Bindi. She has a show, dvd's, plush dolls, walls of action figures. It's kind of insane.
On the plus side, they had
a lot of cute girls working at the zoo.
I could tell you all the little things from around the zoo, but I'll just try to caption pictures instead, because they'll say more than I can.
Next stop, Byron Bay where I finally go surfing!!
