We arrived in Mt Isa early yesterday and settled in for a few days stay, today we joined a great bus tour of the MIne and learnt heaps about the Lead, Copper Zinc and Silver that is mined here. We were told about the discovery by Cambell Mile and the way the mine divided the town for years. How the mine works with it 32 levels underground and more than 900 km of tunnels. We saw up close and personally the gigantic Black Star open mine that will be 800 mts deep when its finished, and all the big 250 tonne tip trucks the girls drive in and out of it. We stopped at the base of the 273 mtr high copper stack that towers over the city. Steve and the gils then ventured underground down the "hard times" mine shaft (named after Campbell Miles Horse) for a 2 hour tour of how things happen down there . Sam and I stayed up top and waited for Samuel to turn 7 years old so he could go too.
